Title: Can anybody help me??? Post by slopoke on 05/20/04 at 07:57:52 I have a 2002 Suzuki Savage with the stock sissybar. I replaced the seats with gel seats, and I replaced the inside of the sissybar pad with a gel pad made to cover a large bicycle seat. It works very well on short runs, but the pad still hits a little low and is uncomfortable after several miles. Does anyone know where I can get a taller bar that would fit a Savage? I've tried every site on the net, plus my dealer, but I haven't had any luck. :-/ |

All you can do is to start going to swap meets or salvage yards to see if any would fit (do the measuring and all) - I got one made - not even chromed - cost $200 bucks at a local machine shop. You can see a picture here - http://thehoghunter.tripod.com/ls650-2.htm - it's about six inches added to the bar - allowing a second pad to be put on (a second metal plate was put in just like the normal sissy bar with the plate that holds on the pad) |

I can't wait 'til he finds "just the right bike". Speaking of cool.... I LOVE your bikes. You have really done some good work there! I got in touch with someone who offered a tall bar on ebay and am keeping fingers crossed. Thank you for you reply. :D |
Title: Re: Can anybody help me??? Post by gitarzan on 05/22/04 at 18:55:01 Hoghunter... OK bub, start talking about that seat... Where you get it, how much, did it fit cleanly, how's it feel, yada yada yada... I wrote to Seeger Cycles about the cobra seat as they import the GTS seats, but they wrote back and said they didn't fit properly and there was no way to make them fit. After 3 returns, they stopped selling it. Your's isn't the cobra, and Seeger didn't tell me why it didn't fit. I wonder if it had to do with the electronics under the pillion. Looks like your seat takes that into consideration. Looks great... |
Title: Re: Can anybody help me??? Post by thehoghunter on 05/24/04 at 06:32:20 I got the Toba seat from Seeger - it didn't fit either. Instead of using the OEM seat mounting tabs, GTS puts a metal plate at the 'nose' of the seat to mount it with the gas tank bolts - only problem is that metal plate then scraps the heck out of your gas tank paint. After I complained a few times to Seeger, then finally mentioned they were getting another complaint from someone else. Then they took it off their site. It's too bad too since one can't find a seat for these bikes except from Suzuki (OEM or GEL). They should have gotten with GTS and fixed the problem. They could make a lot of $$$ of folks that want to buy a custom seat. The seat was a royal pain - and costly - but I was so angry with it, I vowed to make it work. I ripped the whole thing apart, found that the seat pan was perfect (without all the foam) - mounted two plates to it to use the OEM seat mounts . My only problem after that was the spray adhesive I used didn't hold on one side, so it's still under repair. I put it on for the pics I took - it was right before my accident - one of my co-workers ran into it in the parking lot. $1800.00 worth of damage and 4 months to fix. |
Title: Re: Can anybody help me??? Post by gitarzan on 05/25/04 at 20:55:55 Ehhh. I guess I might go for the JCW seat. My basic bike theme seems to becoming tassels and conchos anyway. JCW Gel Seat: :P Jen's bike from this thread: http://www.heise-workstations.de/ls650/Fragen/messages/28562.html http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gitarzan/Jens-sissy+bar.jpg But I really wanted this: :'( http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gitarzan/savage%20seats.jpg |
