Title: 2005 Suzuki S40 Boulevard Post by PerrydaSavage on 06/14/04 at 03:14:52 http://www.suzukicycles.com/images/ProductImages/colorVariations/500/LS650K5_White_ffffff.jpg Check out what Zuki's done to our beloved Savage ... new look and new name for 2005! Looks fantastic! Note the drag-bars, lack of sissy bar, blacked-out top engine covers, 1-piece saddle and the cool new chrome tank badges! I really like the new "more aggressive" look! |
Title: Re: 2005 Suzuki S40 Boulevard Post by thehoghunter on 06/14/04 at 04:16:04 Looks like a Savage - I noticed that they set it up so the headlight comes on after starting (or stays off during starting). The bars have been on Savages already (in Europe I believe) so no big change there. I bet they still didn't bother to put in a tripmeter. Wasn't the 2004 Savage set up with a black engine? |
Title: Re: 2005 Suzuki S40 Boulevard Post by gitarzan on 06/14/04 at 19:49:35 The Black engine was their wasy of taking care of the oil leak problem. ;D It looks about the same except for the saddle, bars and tail end. And the twinky sounding new name... Boulevaaaard |
Title: Re: 2005 Suzuki S40 Boulevard Post by savagethumper on 06/14/04 at 20:29:36 Will this website let Boulevard owners post? I can already see the post...."Hey does everybody's Boulevard backfire????" ;D |
Title: Re: 2005 Suzuki S40 Boulevard Post by Greg_650 on 06/15/04 at 07:31:46 Well, I'll be darned....my Savage is a collector's item ::) |
Title: Re: 2005 Suzuki S40 Boulevard Post by AlisaB on 06/15/04 at 11:26:37 Can someone explain the difference in the engine size readings? 650cc = S40?????? I don't understand how to figure out the engine size now?? |
Title: Re: 2005 Suzuki S40 Boulevard Post by thehoghunter on 06/15/04 at 12:52:42 The S40: 40 cubic inch, four-stroke, single cylinder, air cooled with SOHC The Savage: 652cc, four-stroke, single cylinder, air cooled with SOHC You can take 40 cubic inch and multiply by 16.39 to get the correct cc - in this case, it's off but then again, marketing folks will push the numbers no matter what! Or take the cc and divide by 16.39. 40 cubic inches X 16.39 = 655.6 (Close enough for marketing...just the same way some motorcycles touted as 650cc are actually a little less than 650..the Savage is a little more (652) The Yamaha VStar 650 is actually 649cc, but they still show it as a 40 cubic-inch, air-cooled, SOHC, 70° V-twin). And did everyone notice that the price is the same...so if you did want that backrest (sissy bar), it WILL cost you extra. |
Title: Re: 2005 Suzuki S40 Boulevard Post by Greg_650 on 06/16/04 at 14:26:08 All of the "Boulevard" models are numbered according to their C.I. displacement rather than CC. I guess that is a way to attract the American market, but it seems kinda like a backwards step after everyone's gotten accustomed to the metric measurements. The "new Savage" engine retains all the same specs (bore and stroke, etc.) The next model size up is a S50 or 800...go figure the reasoning. What was wriong with the Intruder and Marauder 800? I just wonder if this change will include simularities between models such that accessories will be more available for the "Savage Boulevard" too. Could all this have to do with Kawasaki? |

Good question Greg ... wouldn't be surprised now that Zuki and Kawi are in bed together, that in a few years you'll see the Cruiser line-up of both totally revamped and streamlined. Love the new S40, but sadly I predict that the days of the "Big Single" may be numbered ... |
Title: Re: 2005 Suzuki S40 Boulevard Post by Greg_650 on 06/18/04 at 14:18:03 Big single days are numbered....sad but true. If the bigger is better theme doesn't get it, then the EPA will. One day it will be retired to the FSSNOC category, I guess. To survive the EPA, it will need to end up with fuel injection, liquid cooling, and a good ol' catalytic converter, I bet. Definitely wouldn't look the same on the street....and not much sense in a dirt version with the DR line up. |
Title: Re: 2005 Suzuki S40 Boulevard Post by Kropatchek on 06/18/04 at 15:50:01 Luckely we have a historic motor bike and get away withe the new regulations. ;D |
Title: >:(Re: 2005 Suzuki S40 Boulevard Post by AL_DOWN_UNDER on 06/24/04 at 23:31:43 I THINK THE NEW MODEL IS YUCK |
Title: Re: 2005 Suzuki S40 Boulevard Post by PerrydaSavage on 06/25/04 at 00:48:27 ;DCare to elaborate Al? How come YUCK? The changes are not that extreme ... it is essentially the same Bike as before, just a 'lil more "streamlined" to enhance the subtle 60's Chopper lines the LS650 already had! |
Title: Re: 2005 Suzuki S40 Boulevard Post by Kropatchek on 06/25/04 at 08:30:22 I love it and when I can affort it I will buy it. The seat, the handlebars, the fenderstruts at the back are a big improvement. The black barrel is NOT. They (the Japs) can call it what they want, it is still a SAVAGE. |
Title: Re: 2005 Suzuki S40 Boulevard Post by gitarzan on 06/25/04 at 15:13:00 I'll bet the badge is glued on and will come off with a little coaxing with a piece of dental floss. Actually, most of the changes seem to be your typical mods that people do. At least some people. I like it. The name is twinky, but Savage was also kinda camp. |
Title: Re: 2005 Suzuki S40 Boulevard Post by AL_DOWN_UNDER on 06/26/04 at 00:43:53 Sorry guys i think the old savage have a very aggressive savage look about them. This new one seems to have a tamed reto look about it. |
Title: Re: 2005 Suzuki S40 Boulevard Post by maria on 06/27/04 at 08:54:21 i like it - very much but they don't seem to be importing them into the UK at least all my enquiries have drawn a blank!! they haven't really changed that much, i don't like my sissy bar anyway - what is the seat height, iti is the same as before? |
Title: Re: 2005 Suzuki S40 Boulevard Post by Savage_Rob on 06/27/04 at 16:20:18 I've been doing a lot of reading lately on various bikes and had pretty much settled on the 2003/2004 model of the Savage 650 because of its back-to-basics appeal and the relative ease of maintenance. I am 41 and haven't ridden in about 15 years. I used to ride a KZ750 and was pretty happy with it. I gave it up about the time I got married and recently decided I wanted another bike. In general, I'm glad I did not already buy the 2004 because I really the cosmetic changes to the 2005. In my opinion, the flatter handlebars are nice and the white just looks good. The belt drive will be a nice change form the old chain hassles and I understand the sound of the Savage is fairly throaty too. |
Title: Re: 2005 Suzuki S40 Boulevard Post by AL_DOWN_UNDER on 06/27/04 at 22:28:59 THE SISSY BAR COMES IN HANDY ON LONG TRIPS FOR STRAPING YOUR BAGS TO. ALL SO THE SAVAGES ARE NOT LONG BIKES .WHEN TWO UP AND A FAIR BIT OF GRUNT THAT THE SAVAGES HAVE THE PILLON NEEDS THAT BAR .SO I THINK THEY HAVE GHANGED OUR CRUSIER SAVAGE TO A CITY COMUTER. :-/ |
Title: Re: 2005 Suzuki S40 Boulevard Post by Savage_Rob on 06/28/04 at 10:01:45 Really the only thing I didn't like about the 2005 was the seat change - for two reasons. First, it is now 1-piece (and I really like the solo option). Second, no backrest/sissy bar. Of course, you can purchase a gel-seat now for it for about $280 I think. Personally, since I prefer the solo seat look I'll probably just sling leather bags over the pillion while I consider the gel options. I'm not sure whether they are 2-piece arrangements yet either. Oh well, first-things-first... waiting on the new S40's to arrive at my local dealers. |
