Title: New chrome indicator for savage
Post by Francesco Riso on 06/29/04 at 13:53:31

:)

Hi guys,

looking for parts for my beautiful lady I found this nice site where there are some specific accessories for our moto.

http://www.mc-land.no/shop/ls_650.htm

I think I'll buy the chrome indicators

What do you think about that? I like so much

The oil temperature gauge piques my interest...

That's exactly the oiltemp gauge i have. Put the 80 degr. mark to the RH side and can see the needle when driving. Good stuf ::)

Where did you mount it?

This type of oiltemperature gauge takes the place of the oilfiller cap.  ::)

I wonder if they make one in a fahrenheit dial?

I'm not finding any US retailers with it anyway. :(

When the engine is running, there is a very low oil level in the crankcase, does this probe actually touch the oil when it is the filler hole?  Or is it just a general engine temp reading?

I like it though....

Oiltemp. sensor measures the general temp. of the block.
The sensor is shorter than the one in the picture above and is in noway touching the oil. Mine is made in Germany from http://www.louis.de/

Well considering that the oil IS the coolant in the engine, I suppose that is accurate enough for a general temp reading.  Besides, it adds another "chrome accessory" and that is important too  8)

What is the normal temp?

That is less than 200o F.  The head has to be about 2 times that....

176 F to be exact. To change the subject: have you ever measured the temp. of the head?

No, but I've seen infrared photos (spectrwhat?) and it is supposed to be around 350oF.
