Title: Back Tire Preferences Post by savagethumper on 07/11/04 at 19:12:31 Are there any particular brands of back tires that you guys recommend for the Savage? Mine's getting a pretty good flat strip right up the middle. I need the best for the buck. |
Title: Re: Back Tire Preferences Post by gitarzan on 07/12/04 at 11:25:52 I just bought a pair of Metzeler ME880 Marathons. Haven't gotten them installed yet, however. :-[ I had to order the rear tube from a secondary source and it's not arrived yet. >:( The tires arrived in 2 days, the rear tube's taken over a week so far... Anyway, from what I read elsewhere on Bert Heise's borad, the Metzelers seem to be the preferred tire for the Savage. What sold me was several of the new ME880 owners made a statement that it tranformed the bike's handling. That was good enough for me. Where I got mine: http://www.tiresunlimited.com/metzeler_me_880.htm The folks who are taking forever on the tube: http://www.bikebandit.com |

My spouse also has the Metzelers. She loves them. Just don't go to a larger size because of clearance issues (especially with the saddle bag brackets). I have Dunlops, which I really like, but I was told they have been discontinued. Not sure. If you try either one, you'll never want the stock IRCs again. |
Title: Re: Back Tire Preferences Post by gitarzan on 07/12/04 at 20:13:26 FWIW my innertube is finally on the way. |
Title: Re: Back Tire Preferences Post by savagethumper on 07/12/04 at 20:27:26 ;D Thanx for the help guys, that's not the first time the Metzler's have been recommended. I guess that's what I'm going to get. |
Title: Re: Back Tire Preferences Post by AL_DOWN_UNDER on 07/12/04 at 22:08:12 IAM QUIT HAPPY WITH MY DUNLOPS . I GET DOWN AND DIRTY A BIT, SO FAR DOWN. THE ROAD RIPS MY FOOT OFF THE FRONT PEG. HOW EVER I HAVE FOUND IT IS BEST TO CHOOSE A TIRE WITH THIN GROVES AS THE THE WIDE GROVES IN THE CENTER ALLWAYS SEEM TO WEAR OUT FASTER. :o |
