Title: Savage Exhaust Post by Kav on 07/12/04 at 10:42:47 I have 2 questions about the exhaust but first let me introduce myself - I am a new rider and wanted something that I could feel comfortable on and manhandle a little. I am 5'7 and thin so the low seat height and 350lb weight really appealed to me. I bought my 2001 Savage about a month ago and ride it all the time. 1. The clamp between the exhaust and the cylinder broke in half while I was riding it one day. I have the new clamp and am going to install it tomorrow - anything in particular I need to know ahead of time? Looks like it is just a few bolts to pull it loose from the cylinder. 2. Has anyone used the Super Trapp pipes for the Savage? I would like something with a little lower pitched rumble plus as I ride Interstate everyday to work, would like a little more high end speed. |

Plus I'll have him on there if I need a hand. However, when I was putting the front heat shield back on, I had difficulty getting the 2 nuts to tighten - on the front one, it seemed to be turning the entire bolt. The question I have on that is the spacer that is between the frame and engine still seems slightly loose - I can turn it with my hand, is this okay or does it need to be tighter? Also, I seem to have less power than before this whole situation and I am wondering of maybe there is an air leak - is there supposed to be a gasket between the pipe and the cylinder head? I didn't see one there and the shop that sold me the new clamp didn't mention one either. |

The nut screws on a very long bolt that you have to hold with a spanner from the other side. Yes there is a gasket inbetween the cilinder head and the pipe. |
