Title: Raask Pipe Post by Kropatchek on 07/13/04 at 16:11:07 Thinking of installing a Raask Pipe. ;D There are 2 models: the 60 mm double wall pipe and the 2" single wall. I like the look , especial the straight cut . Question to the experts ( Greg_650?) 1) Noise, is there any damping? 2) Double or single wall? 3) Carburetor jets replacements? thanks for info. |
Title: Re: Raask Pipe Post by koiroy on 07/13/04 at 16:17:15 8) A great pick for a pipe style but not cost efficient for most of us. Love to see of a pic of it installed. I think Greg may agree with the double wall type since the dreaded blueing isn't an issue. I went with the $75 slash cut glass pack that I am thrilled with. What a great sound!!! A little blueing though. The $350 price for the Raask I couldn't justify. |
Title: Re: Raask Pipe Post by jendesigner on 07/14/04 at 05:48:56 I have the 50mm pipe, both pipes are 2-wall not just the 60mm pipe. When I bought mine the 50mm was the only option. (I didn't pay $350, that would make me think twice). If I bought one today I would go with the 60mm. I like the look and it keeps it away from the rear brake adjustment screw. I also use the baffle. It is loud enough. If I remember right Greg does not use the baffle. You will have to rejet. It is expensive but I really like the look and sound. I seem to justify my additions to the bike by telling myself I didn't pay that much for a used 1995 bike so I'm still ahead somehow :-) I can take some photos of it and post it on my site later today. Here is a link to my bike right now. I will update later. http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/jendesigner/album?.tok=pherjNBB6Zmni94S&.dir=/4fb4&.src=ph |
Title: Re: Raask Pipe Post by Gargoyle on 07/14/04 at 06:46:31 I have a straight thru drag pipe(not Raask). I had to rejet. However I also am using a K&N clamp on filter. My quess is you will still have to rejet even if you use stock air cleaner with a Raask. I recently contacted Raask about a pipe. They quoted me something like $230 for the pipe and $100 dollars shipping from Europe. I installed a $10 Auto Zone tailpipe extention(2"X24"). |
Title: Re: Raask Pipe Post by PRH111 on 07/14/04 at 09:49:54 Perhaps it would be cost efficient if a group of 10 people were to all buy the Raask pipe shipped to one address. The overseas freight would therefore be significantly reduced and UPS ground is not very expensive. Perhaps the Raask pipes may even be obtained at a slightly discounted price due to the large order. |

Sorry to let you down on this deal > I'm ordering from The Netherlands and Sivert Raask quoted me 255 for the 60mm pipe 220 for the 50mm and 40 shipping, all in Euros. What I want to know is: what mainjet seize do I need? |

$350? I paid $280 direct to the factory which covered S&H and the wire transfer, too. They also included a cool ballcap with mine. The double wall is great and the chrome finish is much better than stock (with Raask signature on the end). Plus it is about 5 pounds lighter, doesn't need a muffler clamp, and the best part....the ID is bigger than the stock header. We are talking more FLOW now too.... :o |

This is what I did...the engine only seems to be slightly lean when cold, with only an occassional pop. It goes away when it warms up....no black smoke and never a backfire at all. 1. I drilled out the plug on the idle mixture screw and adjusted it richer. 2. I found a spacer for the jet needle that was 1/2 thickness of the original. From about ~3 mm to 1.5 mm (~.100" to .050") to raise the needle a little bit. 3. I installed a #155 main jet. All those seem to have gotten the carb jetting close to those in the original 1986 models. I didn't think that just removing the spacer was the best way to go. At 60oF I don't ever need any choke and if colder only to start it and I turn it off right away. For the main jet, I think that I could actually benefit from a #157.5 or #160 main jet, but I haven't gotten around to getting one. The reason is that the ID of the Raask is larger (throughout) than the stock header pipe so there is better flow than with the 1986 exhaust. I also have a K&N pod filter too. Remember....I did all this from experimentation because I first had a SuperTrapp and then got the Raask. My wife is running the Trapp on hers now with a #152.5 and a stock intake and stock needle jet. She also has no backfires. |
