Title: drain plug Post by mississippi_rider on 08/01/04 at 09:43:21 o k 04 bike where is the drain plug?/ i see something rite behind the pipe on the left side pointing straight ahead and then the is what looks like a plug on the bottom of the motor the book shows it behind the kickstand spring nothing help its time to :-/do it |
Title: Re: drain plug Post by Kropatchek on 08/01/04 at 13:50:52 That's the one, behind the kickstand just behind the frame tube. It takes a 17mm spanner . Cannot be much different from the Savage. ;D Greets Kropatchek |
Title: Re: drain plug Post by mississippi_rider on 08/01/04 at 14:56:22 thanks |

The place is the same,on an 02 Savage, but the size is 14mm. |
Title: Re: drain plug Post by Greg_650 on 08/02/04 at 08:56:46 Just to be sure...the plug faces to the left side of the frame tube. |
Title: Re: drain plug Post by Pat B on 08/02/04 at 10:32:23 Yes, if you are using sitting on the bike as a reference. When on the kickstand it is on the low side of the engine case. There are 2 other 17mm headed bolts on the other side, but I don't know what they do. |

I'll tell you: The one facing forward ( when sitting on the bike) ;D is for the connection of a oilpressure gauge. The one pointing down ( when the bike is on the black rubbers) ;D is for draining the oilfilter cavity. Never used because it's almost unreacheable. Greetz Kropatchek |
Title: Re: drain plug Post by Pat B on 08/02/04 at 23:27:04 Thanks for the info. Like you said the filter drain (learned something new there) is almost unreachable, and I didn't need it when I changed my oil. |
Title: Re: drain plug Post by Greg_650 on 08/03/04 at 12:58:55 Also, when you think that all the oil has drained out of the drain plug, hold the bike vertical for a couple minutes and let it drain from the left hand side case....that area will still hold a little with the bike on the side stand. |
Title: Re: drain plug Post by gitarzan on 08/03/04 at 16:36:34 I always hold the bike up in the air and shake it a few times to get the last few drops out. uh hunh. ;) |
Title: Re: drain plug Post by Kropatchek on 08/03/04 at 16:39:49 And to get ALL the oil out you have to split the crankcase and clean it out with a lintfree cloth. ;D ;D Any more suggestions mr. piston? ;) |
Title: Re: drain plug Post by gitarzan on 08/03/04 at 16:45:46 Greg's last message is correct. Tilt it up... |
Title: Re: drain plug Post by Greg_650 on 08/04/04 at 03:04:48 I like the idea of splitting the cases too ::) |
