Title: Off topic: VS 700 Intruder Post by jendesigner on 08/10/04 at 13:03:03 Does anyone here know anything about a 1986 700VS Intruder? Are the specs much different than the newer 800. I just saw an ad for one at a good price and less miles than my '95 Savage. I'm itching to start my collection and this bike looks fun. I've been eyeing the Volusia for a while but I would have to wait until Spring, this one I could get now. |
Title: Re: Off topic: VS 700 Intruder Post by wrench on 08/10/04 at 13:43:27 Suzuki has made little refinements to carburetion, electrical, styling (note front wheel size) over the years but the 700 is much the same bike as the current 800. Both the Suzuki and Clymer shop manuals cover all variants in a single book. The 700/800 Intruders have two carbs linked by cables which are notorious for getting out of synch. When they are out of synch the engine vibrates. Adjustment is almost impossible unless you have an EGA to meter carb output. Owners uncap the airscrews and find that they cannot get the carbs dialed by ear, so end up paying the shop for meter time. The choke cable is also know to frequently become unseated and cause rich running. If you are after the Harley sound, you won't get it with the Intruder's offset dual-pin crank. The bikes are very fast and fun to ride, but plan on some maintenance expense. There is a discussion group here: http://www.intruderalert.com/cafe/index.cfm |
