Title: Footpegs vs. Floorboards Post by Susan on 08/16/04 at 11:58:49 Footpegs seem to be the standard but floorboards look like they would be more comfortable. It doesn't seem like many people have them though. Other than price, what are the downsides to floorboards? |
Title: Re: Footpegs vs. Floorboards Post by PerrydaSavage on 08/16/04 at 12:50:14 :)Hi Susan ... I've never owned a Bike with footboards, so I'm hoping someone who has will chime in here ... as far as pegs go, it seems as though they contribute to small(er) control inputs, enabling the Rider to avoid minor road obstructions (i.e. small potholes, ruts, etc.), by transferring weight to one peg or the other ... don't know how effective boards are in this regard due to the greater surface area, thus not transferring the Riders weight as well?? Anyone care to comment on this? |
Title: Re: Footpegs vs. Floorboards Post by Jon on 08/16/04 at 13:16:34 Floorboards are much more comfortable (relaxing) on long highway rides. With our forward mounted pegs the heels of the boots are unsupported and you become conscious of it as the miles roll by. I find myself tucking the edge of my right boot under the brake lever to compensate. The left foot gets no relief. Boards can be a hassle, though, because you can drag them in tight corners if you ride aggressively. They also need to be setup properly to match your natural foot angle so the ankles aren't stressed. I've not mounted any on an LS650, but put a pair of HAC boards on a Kawa 500 Vulcan with good results. Not sure if HAC makes them for the LS. |
Title: Re: Footpegs vs. Floorboards Post by Gargoyle on 08/17/04 at 08:14:39 I have small floorboards on one of my bikes. I love them. They are much more comfortalbe for long rides. So it depends your your needs. There are full sized floorboards and smaller ones. Smaller or sometimes called mini floorboards might be the way to go with a Savage. My small floorboards are 6 1/2 inches and work well. Got mine form JC Whitney. Kury Akyn offers a mini floorboard as well as a dually peg. You can add a heel pad to there pegs and get a more full foot support. I did have to adapt mine to fit. There are lots of choices. Some are bolt on and some may require adapting. |

Thanks for the suggestion. After seeing your post, I went and looked at the Kuryakyn peg with heel pad. Looks like a neat idea. Anyone have them or have any thoughts?
