Title: Savage Bobber
Post by Kropatchek on 08/19/04 at 16:00:36

Read on a German forum, take from a German bikers magazine. ;D
Savage Bobber. Download the artikel and tell me what you think of it.  ???
B.t.w. the tank and speedometer are from a Yamaha dragstar XVS 600. I wonder where the beltdrive comes from, it is narrower than we have on the LS650.

:) ;D Pretty cool looking bike. I like seeing all the different ways people modify their Savage. It is of interest to me because I am chopping my Savage. So if you come across more pics please post them.

Hey Gargoyle (love the name BTW), Am sure you know this but just in case not...there is a gallery of Savage photos associated with this site.  There are also Savage pics at the Heise forum and the Be_Savage yahoo groups forum.  If you have the patience to poke around there are lots of cool bikes to see.

I'm not sure he has enough traction in back. <g>

Note the Hagon shocks.

Can anyone translate the article and find out what kind/brand of handlebar risers he used?  They look good and have just enough rise to be practical.

Translation : In the artikel a lot of bla. bla. about midifying bikes, not interesting and to difficult for me to translate. So I will stick to the technical details as far as decribed.
The tank, cockpit and headlight are from a XVS 650 Yamaha Dragstar.
The risers are from MMS ( whoever they may be)
The frame and rearswing have been modified but not detailed how.
The shocks are as mentioned by Jon, from Hagon, with the remark "as low as possible"
Rearfender MMS manufacture and Hella taillight.
Frontblinkers from Kellermann.
Front tyre 120/60-17
Rear tyre 170/80-15
The remainder is standard or can be seen in the pictures.
I will find out about MMS for more details and post when available.

Happy customizing

It certainly looks robust...

darn, he stole my black front forks!

Looks much like the path I'm following.  I like the ceramic black header....and for everyone interested....that is a SuperTrapp muffler.  You can tell by the logo stamped on the end....the 4 "////" lines.

As for the rear drive, I'm almost positive that is a stock Savage rear wheel, pulley and belt.  It has just been Painted and laced to bigger rim and tire that makes it look smaller.

But what really cool is the tank.  Didn't that come off a Harley?

He also removed his rear footpeg mounts like I did  ::)

As said : the tank comes of a XSV 650 Yamaha Dragstar.
An the beltdrive accoording the artikel is a narrowed down Savage belt. Wonder how they did that. To me it looks like a HD belt.

I guess that I missed that about the tank.  Thanks.

You could "narrow down" the rear pulley because the inside lip is a bolted ring that is removable.  I guess that he had to do that for the fatter profile tire, but I don't know how you "narrow down" the belt.  The rear hub is all Savage, though.

I'm kind of surprised not to see any external carb changes    :o
