Title: The Mysterious John H
Post by Susan on 08/19/04 at 19:12:11

Anyone ever talked to John H, the creator of this forum?  I never see any posts from him unless he is posting under a different name.  I seem to remember seeing an old post from Greg that he hadn't been able to contact him.

John H, wherever you are, I just want to say thanks for an amazing forum.  This is so much more focused and easier to use than some of the other forums -- not that they are bad but this is just so much easier!

Thanks for starting it.

Yup, me too. I tried to email J.H. a "thanks" but it came back or some such... anyway Thanks man!

I had actually exchanged some email with John H in another forum before finding this one.  However, I have tried 3 times to contact him with no return.

I was a wondering that too.   He hasn't even posted in a year.   I was wondering if he was aware the forum has kind of taken off rather nicely...

I once a had a forum on Cheesy Guitars (you know, the Savages of the guitar world). It just sputtered out after a few weeks of some interest.  After a year I took it out to the back 40 and put it out of it's misery.  I know how frustrating it can be when you "throw a party and nobody comes."  But the party has started hoppin' now!

I just hope that someday when the dues on domain name or server space here comes due and the whole place becomes nothing more than dust in the wind.   :'(

I do support forums that I am active in.  I'd be more than happy to cough up a Jackson now and then to help pay the bills.

Oh do I ever understand what you mean about taking a sputtering site out to the back 40...been there too.  That domain name just recently expired after a long illness.

I'd hate to see this one turned off due to non-payment too.  What ever would I do with myself ::)

Found?

John M Himmelberger
Sequim WA 98382

I'd feel like a jerk calling him.  But then again, I can see this conversation, "Yeah, I'm not stalking you or anything.  Just wanted to say how cool your website was and all."

Response: "What web site?"

I know what you mean.  Well maybe he pops in periodically and checks on things.  If that's the case, John, thanks and let us know if there is anything we can do to help in terms of site maintenance.  It is a great forum.

He's just across Puget Sound from me, I'll ring him up and see what happens.

I spoke with him on the phone and he might make an appearance here soon.  He does own an LS650, btw, the red-flame-tank bike on the front page.

Cool.  Did you find out if he pops in periodically?  It would be good to know if anything needs to be done to keep the site going...

Apparently not, it appears that he has a full plate on the internet.

Hey guys!  Wow...There are quite a few of us around here now. Sorry I have been absent over the last year or so.  I have been busy busy busy!

I appreciate all your posts and concerns and promise to put a bit more effort into this place we call home.

If you have any input on how to make this site serve our community better, please give me a shout.

I have no intention on letting this site go after all I am a savage owner! (The red one on the home page).  It does cost money to run the site but so far it has not been a problem.  If anyone here would like to contribute that would be most execellent but it is not required.

My goal here was / is to build a savage community with tons of resouces and NO annoying banner ads or pop ups.

A big thank you from me to you all.  THANK-YOU.  Without your daily posts this site would be worthless.

The Mysterious John H.

Hey Mr. Mysterious  ;D

Glad to have you back and thanks again for starting this forum.  It has been a great resource for me and many other Savage owners -- focused, user-friendly and lots of great people...

You asked about suggestions/improvements -- one thing I've noticed is on the forum index page there are forum statistics.  Most of them seem to be working but the one that counts the number of members and the newest member do not.  Not a biggie, of course!

Hello, "Mr. Mysterious Re-sizer of Photos".  You had us really wondering, and myself also because my emails, using the "contact" link, had been returned.

Thanks for bringing credibility back to the Savage gang.  :o

Thanks for pointing that out Susan!  I have fixed it and if you find anything else that needs updating let me know.   BTW Your dog looks like he/she is having fun in the picture posted. Great looking dog!

John H,

Is there a way to reverse the listing order. I'd prefer to see the latest post first.

John, If this is possible, before you do it, I would suggest we ask the folks on the forum which they would prefer.  I can see advantages both ways but it would be a big change.  I would be happy to start the topic to ask for thoughts if you let me know if it is possible.

I was thinking along the lines of a option checkbox. I use another list that has a box at the bottom of the page and you can change from oldest to newest or newest to oldest in a whim.
