now that the bike is up and running can anyone tell me how tight the belt shoud be, i do not have the tool that checks tension , how much chould the belt move up and down at the center, like checking a chain ? bike is a 86 savage .

Tighten the belt untill you can twist it 90 degr. by hand.

That would be around the front pulley, right? ;D

With load on the back of the 'bike so the belt is at it's tightest point, then it should turn through 90 degrees,more and it's too loose less too tight.

I know one thing....if it's too tight, it squeaks alot.

Once You have the tension set as the above you can work out how to measure it in an easier way. You could try topped out and measure it from a fixed point on the swingarm to the belt pushed down. Much easier to do.

That's why the book says that you should adjust it with the gage with the wheel on the ground too.
