Title: Brakes Squeal Post by Susan on 09/14/04 at 07:12:45 Here's a new thing. My front brake has started squealing (only when I am using it). What could cause it? Could I need new pads after only 1000 miles? |
Title: Re: Brakes Squeal Post by Mr 650 on 09/14/04 at 07:48:38 Don't worry, LS650's; they squeal and back fire. This winter, pull the pads out and put a thin coat of anti-squeal goop on the back if they are not worn out. My front and rears both squeak sometimes. I got 4.5K on it :) |
Title: Re: Brakes Squeal Post by Old Geezer on 09/14/04 at 10:09:35 My wife's new Savage backfires and the brakes also squeal. The shop guy said not to worry. All Savages do that. |
Title: Re: Brakes Squeal Post by Jon on 09/14/04 at 10:17:27 Often the squeal is caused by light use which can glaze the pads. To deglaze, stop the bike from 45mph several times using just the front brake. Hold steady, firm pressure on the brake lever, don't let up until you are stopped. If that doesn't help, try EBC pads. |
Title: Re: Brakes Squeal Post by Roadie on 09/14/04 at 16:37:09 I was wondering the same thing. I'm squeeling along too. I inspected the pads and found that they have plenty of pad left. I just thought it was the humidity. Though wondered why I'd squeel even after use. Mystery solved! ::) - Roadie |

regarding these brake rotors: Make sure you debur the holes in the disk. The burs will make you brakepads wear with lightning speed :o Greetz Kropatchek |

Don't recall seeing a (stock) Savage w/drilled disk. Is that a euro thingy? |

No. Your pads are fine. As some have said they may have gotten glazed. I've heard this from other Savages many times. Funny too, it happened to my spouse's bike but has never bothered mine. Since you have to go for your 1000 mile check up just ask them to fix it. I posted this some time ago. It shows the wear groove in the pad. You can see these without disassembly. If the groove is gone, you need new ones. http://216.77.188.54/coDataImages/p/Groups/215/215131/folders/156030/1232336Brake04web.jpg |

Title: Re: Brakes Squeal Post by Gargoyle on 09/16/04 at 06:58:02 I talked to the mechanic at the local Suzuki dealer about this. This guy is good. He said it is normal and when I replace the front brake pads to use EBC pads and the squeal will stop. In fact he replaces all front pads with EBC when he does brake work for customers and not Suzuki pads. |

The EBC brake disk I fitted had holes drilled into it. The inner brakepad wore down to the metal within 100 Km. Greets Kropatchek |
Title: Re: Brakes Squeal Post by Pat B on 09/17/04 at 20:35:08 How long should a set of front pads last?? I have 5400 miles on mine, and I need to replace them now. Is this normal?? |
Title: Re: Brakes Squeal Post by Greg_650 on 09/18/04 at 04:24:37 A good thing to note would be if one pad is worn more than the other. Might indicate if the caliper is "floating" on the disk or if one side is contacting the disk more than the other. |

It was a no brainer too. I went to the Suzuki dealer and that is the brand they carried. |
