Title: Re: TACHOMETER Post by Ed L. on 11/30/04 at 15:57:55 I've been using a small engine tach from Northern Hydralics, it's inexpensive and mounts between the handle bar yokes using tie wraps, even looks good. It's self contained, all I needed to do was wrap the pickup wire around the plug wire and connect to a ground. So far it has been working fine and at around $30.00 it's the cheapest tach you will find. Ride Safe, Ed L. |
Title: Re: TACHOMETER Post by sluggo on 11/30/04 at 16:31:47 tachometers we dont need no stinking tackometers on a thumper. :o why add a couple pounds of weight for something that is not needed for operation. use the money you would spend on the tach for fuel the accessory the savage loves the most. now if it's an apperance issue by all means go for it. |
Title: Re: TACHOMETER Post by Greg_650 on 12/01/04 at 04:02:46 A Tack-o-Meter is just a fun add-on. It won't make you go faster, and might even slow you down with that extra weight. It's also just something else to clean and wax. Plus you've got to consider the extra drain on the electrical system to power the light bulb...might be risky when you plug in your cold weather riding suit. ;D Aside from that, for the little extra expense you have something to verify idle speed and to know whether you are actually in 5th gear or not.....3500 RPMs at 50 MPH. Mine gives me a secure feeling and peace of mind :P |

Title: Re: TACHOMETER Post by klx650sm2002 on 12/03/04 at 07:46:53 If I had the spare cash I would have a Savage, with 17" wheels. The KLX650 is a big trail bike, mine is a supermoto version,17" wheels and a load of other stuff. Clive W :D |
Title: Re: TACHOMETER Post by Kropatchek on 12/03/04 at 09:18:31 Thanks KLX. :D I love supermoto. Watch Motors on the tele very often. Greetz kropatchek ;D |
Title: Re: TACHOMETER Post by Ed L. on 12/03/04 at 17:36:22 The link that Paladen posted shows the same tach that I've been using. It's small enough to fit between the risers, so far I've had no problems and am happy with it. The only thing that I wished that it had is a memory for max rpm but for the price it can't be beat. |

If I had the spare cash, I'd have a KLR....a little different, but the same concept. Savage with 17" wheels? That would be different. |
