Title: Tires Post by giom-650 on 11/30/04 at 11:39:23 I bought my 2002 new. The rear tire was worn out at 3500 miles, so I replaced it with a Metzeler of the same size. My front tire is now getting pretty thin at 4600 miles, and it will need replacing within the next few months. The stock tires for this bike are schlock, so be aware new tires will be needed quickly. ::) |

Title: Re: Tires Post by red2k1 on 11/30/04 at 12:58:41 giom-650, That is surprising to me. I have a 2002 with a little over 7,000 miles on the clock and have plenty of tire left. About 80% in the front and 70% in the rear. At what pressure do you run the tires? I use about 31 psi front and rear. |

Title: Re: Tires Post by giom-650 on 11/30/04 at 13:05:19 Interesting! ??? I generally run 33-35 psi pressure. I haven't ever spun the tire, but I accelerate briskly in 2nd gear frequently. Maybe you got a different brand of original equipment tires on yours. |

The correct tire pressure is on the manufacturers label on the steering head....no guess work. |

Title: Re: Tires Post by cphilip on 12/01/04 at 06:35:35 My stock ones went to 8500 miles before needing replacement. Which is about right really. Softer tires equal more wear but better grip. I run mine according to the manual.... |

Title: Re: Tires Post by PRH111 on 12/01/04 at 08:59:53 Heavier people (and those who have more equipment on their bikes such as saddle bags etc) will wear a tire out faster. A 350lb bike with a 200+ lb rider and 30lbs in accessories *should* wear out the tires faster than those who have few accessories and a 150lb rider. How aggressively you stop and take corners will also impact the tire life (in addition to how hard you accelerate). |
