Title: Opinions wanted
Post by gazab44 on 03/19/05 at 10:39:56

hello all
I have found a supplier of universal mufflers...cheap....
but I cannot decide which would look better on my savage, a 15" slashcut or a 19" turnout....opinions please.

If going for a sporty look I say slash cut. If you have bags and look more tourer the turn out may look good. I prefer slash cut myself.

If the mufflers are Motoasia brand, save your money for something better. I have one of their glaspacs, it is absolutely a waste of money. Motoasia is JC Whitless, ShadeTree, DK and related budget line.

Thank you on that -- I was looking at JCW even tho' I have gotten so much junk from them I should know better.

I'm looking, eventually, for a long pipe with a fishtail at or slightly beyond the back of the tire.

Hey, no fair. I already run one of those. The cheapo JCW junker. Next time, I'm getting the pieces from the hot rod car aftermarket. Stainless steel, not much more expensive in the long run.

I've tried one of the JC slashback mufflers on a little 250cc Ducati from the late 60's. It made the bike louder than my Savage with a stock unit on it.  ;D The quality is pretty cheap but it is better than nothing. Keep an eye out on e-bay, fishtailed exhausts show up all the time. Ride Safe

Back to the original question, slashcut definitely.

I think I'll try the slash cut then.
For £30 if they do turn out to be cheap and nasty I've not lost nothing..

Those look to be EXACTLY the same cheapo pieces as the Motasia/Emgo garbage. Only so many Taiwanese aftermarket suppliers...
Maybe they'll work for awhile. The packing is fairly low-grade glassfibre. The chrome is very thin. Be prepared to spend some extra time polishing and repacking. They'll look/sound alright IF you put in the extra time on them.

After having a straight cut dragpipe, I'd have to suggest a slash cut.  I bet that it will blow less carbon on the brake arm....which is a pain to clean off.

The Raask is available in a slash cut...I just made the wrong choice  ::)

I've been swapping back and forth between the cheap shorty glasspack from JC Whitney and my MAC and still can't make up my mind.  Yes, the MAC is better quality but the shorty still looks good and sounds and runs nice.  It's easy to pull the end-cone and repack when the time comes too.  There a different feel to each and I really don't know which I like better yet.  I seem to get a bit better fuel economy with the MAC though rejetting when I go to the shorty might correct some of that.  Oh well, I'll keep playing.  Part of having a bike is the hobbyist part of tweaking it... Heck, now I leave my computers alone more of the time and they actually seem to still work.  Wow.
