First thing is- verify that You have enough fuel in the bowl. If so- You will have to clean the carb. Pull the gas tank off, pull the rubber mounted rellay, that is just above the carb and let it hang on the wires , take the battery cover off, unhook the trottle cable from the carb , loosen the fr. and rr. clamp, take off the 4 screws that hold the top chrome carburetor cover, twist the carburetor sideways and You can take the fl. bowl off. Clean the jets and the fl. bowl. Do the main jet mod.-152.5 size seems to be the best size to use. When You are putting everything back together a good idea is to replace the philips screws with alan heads. Pull the vacuum diaphragm with the slide from the top of the carb. Make sure the needle is clean . Do the white spacer mod./plenty of posts about that/, lube the slide with light lubricant and put everything back together. ENJOY !!! |

Did you open, check and clean the carb before you installed it? |
Title: Re: troubleshooting carbs Post by tarheel365 on 04/04/05 at 17:42:08 Yep....well did a visual check, everything was good. I gave it a nice cleaning. I added some Seafoam to the fuel and it started right up :). well now i just gotta adjust the idle speed and screw. I started it off at 2 turns and when i turn the throttle slowly and then close it i get a tiny backfire. I'm gonna do some more fine tuning. when i initially got it started w/ the new carb it shut off after like 10 seconds. but then i realized my idle speed screw was backed up way too much so fixed that and i adjusted the mixture screw to about 2.5 turns. i tried to listen for the idle to speed up but turning the mixture screw doesn't make a different sound to me....i guess i need more practice :p well i'll definitely get it done tomorrow hopefully |
