Title: 1000cc Thumper Post by klx650sm2002 on 04/10/05 at 03:37:01 I wonder if Kawasaki will ever get around to producing half a VN 2000. 103 x 123.2 = 1026.5cc's , thats a big thumper. Clive W :D |
Title: Re: 1000cc Thumper Post by Greg_650 on 04/10/05 at 06:33:14 That would be real cool, but I'm still wondering why the DR 800 never made it here in the US either. |

Title: Re: 1000cc Thumper Post by slavy on 04/10/05 at 08:20:26 Yes, but it will be a Kawasaki. This is my last choyce. |
Title: Re: 1000cc Thumper Post by WD on 04/10/05 at 08:36:51 Reminds me of the old bike saying out here from when I was a kid... Ends in Y, worthy to buy, ends in A, might be okay, ends in I, don't even try. ::) -WD |
Title: Re: 1000cc Thumper Post by babbalou on 04/10/05 at 09:59:26 That would be interesting. If it had a counterbalancer it would probably be reasonable smooth & if they could keep it under 500 lbs it would be a fun ride. 8) |

Hey, aren't Kawasaki and Suzuki joined at the hip these days? |
Title: Re: 1000cc Thumper Post by WD on 04/10/05 at 14:51:52 When I bought the Savage, I actually had had my eye on a used FXR Low-rider. Too pricey, so I decided to go to the complete oppsite side of the bike field. Savage has been decent, not great, but decent. A mite small, but still fun. Kawasaki and Suzuki do collaborate in a couple chassis, I think dirt bikes and quads is all for now. Since neither one had what they considered "adequate" R&D budgets at the time, the merge must have made sense. -WD |

But anyway, you can get the DR 800 engine in Europe, ship over the pond, and install it on a Savage frame... the DR is pretty heavy, so a Savage could become almost a crotch rocket cruiser.... not bad, eh? ;) Just a thought.... ::) Hey, wait a second, I've seen DR 800s around, may eb I'll give that idea a try, if I can spare the $$... :D |
Title: Re: 1000cc Thumper Post by slavy on 04/11/05 at 22:38:37 Yes, It will be nice, but it is not only the engine. It will need the entire wiring and components also. The easiest way is to find a crashed DR800 and transfer the parts on a lighter frame. The next thing will be to reinforce the frame , to put different front end and to go to chain drive, because the DR800 will not take the front pulley. This will end up a carrier builder and instead riding the bike You will spend all the time in the garage like me. |
Title: Re: 1000cc Thumper Post by Red_Wine on 04/12/05 at 09:34:08 OK, Slavvy, Maybe it's not that a bright idea, but just the thoughts of that lightweight bike being pulled by a 800cc jug is appealing, eh? ;) Chain drive conversion is not really expensive, and the frame reinforcements could be welded on it to support the engine, but I cann't see why a new front end is neede (i have made no measurements yet, ::) ) Maybe something for my retirement (in 30 years) RW |
Title: Re: 1000cc Thumper Post by rkutzner on 04/12/05 at 17:46:51 Suzuki provides the very popular Z400 sport quad to Kawi (sold as a KFX400) AND Arctic Cat (sold as a DVX400) Different skins, same great Suzuki........:) |
Title: Re: 1000cc Thumper Post by lancer on 04/12/05 at 22:13:18 There are aftermarket pistons for the DR 650 that go up to 102mm which would get you to about 750cc's...of course that would stretch the cylinder JUST A BIT!!! might be fun to try though........................ take out the cylinder sleeve, borrow another sleeve from some other engine, machine out the Savage case, bore the borrowed sleeve that is now in the Savage cylinder..............and see if it holds together.......oh yea, it would be fun. If it did work, the ride would be great!!!!!!!!!! |
Title: Re: 1000cc Thumper Post by klx650sm2002 on 04/13/05 at 02:30:53 DR 750 = 105mm x 84mm = 728 DR 800 = 105mm x 90mm = 780 Clive W :D |
