Yeeeha!!!!!!!!! You just gotta go there! It was beautiful, a bikers paradise. Open roads, no traffic, no cops except for the boarder patrol. Roller coaster hills and wonderful curves (if you don't mind being on the edge of a cliff). Roadrunners, jackrabbits, deer, birds, butterflies, and a sky so clear at night that I actually saw the Milky Way. All the cactus were in bloom. I have only just begun a web site. I took about 180 pictures so it will take me a while to weed through them for the best. Then uploading to the internet is a slow process but the link below covers the first 2 days of the trip.

Last I was out there, I was 10 years old. I'm jealous already. I wish I could make money out there like I do here.

bobo... I bet you weren't on a motorcycle back when you were 10yrs old. Through the Na. Park you can just grip the throttle and roll on as fast as the bugs permit. Unfortunatly I was in such a hurry to ride that I forgot to reattach my windshield. I got smacked in the cheek by the biggest bug I've ever seen. Ever notice how none of them ever hit your sun glasses?

Just wait for the locust, June bug, or dragonfly between the eyes...ooh that smarts. ::) I don't have a windshield, but my helmet now sports a riot shield style flip-up faceplate.

Diane, That looks like a Great place to visit, I wish the pictures were bigger though.
I live were everyone is right on top of each other, all that open space seems like heaven to me.

save the pics to your computer, then view them with fax picture viewer at the size you want.

Oh wow. We took a family vacation in a travel trailer there when I was a about 15 and all of your pics are so nostalgic. I really need to ride there someday.

You also come to realize that unless you are Ansel Adams you are not capable of taking a picture that can do true justice to the magnificence of the scenery.

But you take the pictures anyhow -- partly to help your memories, and partly for those who realize what a pale shadow the picture is and with that beautiful of a picture the reality has got to be absolutely awesome.

Ok my saga is now finished except for the last 3 days that we spent camping at Lake Somerville with Rick's motorcycle club (they do a big party once a year). I may have a few more pics to add when he gets his film back. He took several of me on the Savage. I was tested this trip. I rode through gravel, rocks, dirt, mud, tar and gusting winds. I kept it upright except once pulling into a rocky drive way, put my right foot down and it slid to the right just as the rear wheel slid to the left. I was left standing (left foot still on the foot peg) holding the bike about a foot of the ground. No harm done but I must have looked really funny.

I see you hit the McDonald Observatory. Were you able to visit it at night? They used to have a natural outdoor amphitheatre there too. Several nights a week, UTEP astronomy students (possibly undergrads, I don't know) would set up smaller (maybe 80mm?) reflective telescopes in the amphitheatre area and hold amateur astronomy sessions for tourists. It was pretty cool stuff.

They only do that 2 nights a week and we missed it. They also do some kind of solar viewing during the day but it was pretty pricey and takes a couple of hours to we decided to ride on down the road.

Rick got his pictures back to day and he has several of me riding that turned out pretty cool. He will have to scan them into the computer for me.

Very nice pictorial of your trip. You have a good eye for photography. I haven't seen that much of Texas, so your photos were very interesting. Some beautiful country and it looks like a great place to ride.

Glad that you didn't catch a tumbleweed, too ;D

Thanks Greg :) I highly recomend this trip. We have already decided to do it again, maybe same time next year and stay longer. It was the perfect time of year to visit Big Bend. The days were warm but not too hot, the nights were cool but not too cold. However, don't go to the Fort Davis area in March or April. We were told that is when the winds are the worst.

There is always a "wrench wench" article, sometimes as simple as proper tie down for trailering to tracking down an electrical problem. Articles on rallys, rides, bike reviews etc. I get the feeling they are still a pretty small publication. Some issues I read cover to cover others don't interest me as much. Ads all geared for women riders. Another magazine I just started subscribing to is "Ride Texas". It is turning out to be really cool.

I really like Ride Texas (http://texmoto.com/) a lot. The Ride Guide (http://www.m2mmd.com/) is great and their annual "best of" issue at the first of the year is excellent. It lists everything from restaurants and hotels to dealerships, service centers, other retailers, favorite rides, etc. as voted by the readers.
