Way to go man.  That is what it is all about, finding what you want and making it work for you.

It's running and I can't see it!  I see big blanks with litle red x in the corner.

I see the same thing Paladin sees, empty boxes with little red Xs in the top left corner.

Ditto on the blank pics with red x's. Sometimes you can right click and click on Show Picture and it will work but most times it doesn't. Is there a magic fix for this? Somewhere in Preferences or something? Here I always thought it was just me and the pc was thinking I was trying to look at a dirty picture or something. Sorry to get off topic but I'd like to see the pics!

Dude... If you are actually running no rear fender, then you are my hero! Now that is cool  ;D

Post by Savage_Rob on 04/20/05 at 08:58:05

Besides the forks not looking like stock, maybe it's the whole front end.  That front wheel is definitely not stock... Look Ma, no spokes!

Title: Re: LondonThing-Savage / Photos
Post by LondonThing on 04/20/05 at 10:52:43

The WHOLE front end is NOT stock. The forks are Ducati 748 and the wheel is from a Cagiva Mito. Yup im running with no rear fender/mud guard. Its almost finished now, Just need the Tail light/numberplate bracet, and head lights :-). I think i might just keep the plastic seat pan untill i can be bothered to finish it, its not uncomftable at all. But im sure I will change my mind after a long ride on her... Only one last thing to do...... M.O.T  :-/

RATBIKE

May be a RatBike now, But it is juat the first build to see if all works OK, Then possible will be tarted up a bit... To be honest thisd bike is going to be ridden into the ground, I already have two clutch and throtle cables run as backups, tied to the existing ones. So pretty chrome bits wont really do me much good. :-)

and yeh what the heck is Hoople????? lol

mott the hoople live is one of the best live albums i've ever heard.

slash from gnr stole the top hat look from ian hunter.

Yeah! You got it ;D. Thanks for bailing me out. Mott is the bomb. Many of the metal/glam bands from the 80's & 90's stole lots from those guys. The stuff still holds up today.

Sluggo's right -- there is nothing wrong with a ratbike.  On the contrary, in my opinion, a true rat bike is the ultimate expression of motorcycle utility.  (a true rat grows that way from neglect, weather, and patching in/on various fixes without regard to cosmetics.  Those who custom build a bike to look like a rat do not understand the soul of the rat.)

Tarting 'er up a bit is okay, jes' don't try ta make a lady outta 'er.  I think it is a great looking bike as it is.

Ratbikes are PREFECT.  Irritate the crap out of the posers and the shiney-hiney crowd on their chrome-plated sows (gitazan, 2005)

Don't change anything.

Also, how did you fit the triple clamps to your bike?  Is there a standard size stem for the frames on bikes?  I aint done this befo'.

I like it! I remember an English friend of mine complaining about the MOT process. The last one she took her first generation Mini through, the car failed. So she torched it at the testing facility. She lives in Spain now...

Well I do remember Ian Hunter - but you see that lines up on about a 5 year span that I really don't remeber much about  ::) could have been a favorite!

I grew up listening to Mott The Hoople, one of the first hard rock bands. Very antisocial music ;D, Still have them in my record collection even have an orignal red vinyl copy of thier first album. The Londonthing Savage is turning out to be a piece of art. Either keep it as a ratbike or turn it into a cafe racer. Just ride the snot out of it and have fun. Ed L.

Nope the stem was too short, but with much Jigery and Pokery I have managed to get the two together, next time i take her appart ill take some snaps if that. is a bit hard to explain how i did it :-)

Thanks so much for all your compliments, it really means a lot to me :-)

Oh and just a thought, iv never riden a savage untill this weekend i got her going, anyone know why the heck i get thrown up in the air if i go over a bump? the suspention is set on the lowest... is this why?? any ideas... i was thinking some new, aftermarket shocks on the rear....??

My Savage pitches me up in the air on bumps, too.  I guess it does not discriminate.  Sure wish there were better springs on that machine...

The stock Savage gives you at least...oh I don't know...maybe something like 1 1/2" of real travel...on a good day...if your lucky.  I picked up a set of shocks with more travel.....12 1/2 " eye to eye instead of 10 1/2 " for a stock shock.  It was thought to be a progressive shock but was not.  Still looking for a works or progressive set.  Won't be long until I find one.

Title: Re: LondonThing-Savage / Photos
Post by WD on 04/24/05 at 23:31:04

Stock shocks don't have much compression. And they wear out pretty quickly. By 4000 miles of use, mine were on setting 5, which ought as well be a rigid frame. Of course, I do tend to beat on my bike pretty good.  ::)
If I wanted a smooth ride I'd have bought a Road Glide or a Honda.

Post by LondonThing on 04/25/05 at 09:32:51

I was thinking some of those fancy racer air adjustable shocks, that rise up and down by themselves.... I DO HAVE A GOOD REASON FOR THIS. since my bike is incredibly lower to the ground than stock dur to the front end, I have to have it on 100% flat ground so the side stand actually works, and it looks a bit prone to falling over with a slight gust of wind, So when i park up i wanted to raise the suspention on the rear maybe 5-6 inches but put it back down again to ride.... Its controled by a little switch i think..... Now the quation is, will it ;look pants????

Title: Re: LondonThing-Savage / Photos
Post by LondonThing on 04/25/05 at 09:35:27

ALSO

Im a bit concened for the same reason as above, about my oil level, as it would be totally out due to the different angle the bike sits at.... ANY IDEAS anyone?
