Is there anywhere you can take an oil pressure measurement on a 96 Savage?

It's the plug #18 that you can take off and attach an oilpressure gauge.

What you saw was probably an oiltemperature gauge in the place of the oilfiller plug.
Have one fitted to my bike. It actually gives you the temp of the engine as the probe does not contact the oil.

I GOTS TO KNOW...Anyone actually got a pressure guage attached to the bolt #18 location?

What kind of oil pressure are we talking about on the Savage?  I've been thinking the oil pressure is relatively low (compared to small block chevy).  Kind of like a 30 year old ford at idle ya know just moving the oil around but not really pressurized.

Need education please.

There are oil pressure specs in the SSM, which is in the garage, so I'll try to remember to check later.

By the Book, the oil pressure is supposed to be between 7.1 to 10.3 PSI with the oil temp above 60 C with the engine at 2000 RPMS.....and it is checked at #18 as Kropatchek said.

Not like my old Chevy for sure  :P

Title: Re: oil pressure
Post by bobo383 on 04/23/05 at 20:55:37

Sounds about like my 74 F100.

I kinda like it that way.  Nothing against my Chevys, but there's nothing like not giving a cr*p when the oil pressure is near zero but the motor's happy anyway.

Yep.  The Book says that if it is below 7, that something is wrong with either clearances or the oil and above 10, that something is plugged...which is common sense mechanics anyway.

I wish my blood pressure was that low  8)

To be that low you would have to be really relaxed or dead. 8)

Title: Re: oil pressure
Post by Savage_Rob on 04/26/05 at 13:32:25

I'm guessing (by breaking down the word) that it's lack of blood volume... as in bleeding to death.  That's just a guess though; I didn't bother to look it up.

------------------------------------

Okay, I just went and looked it up.  I was close but wrong.  It's apparently shock caused by any significant loss of fluid from the body's internal organs - although blood could be one possible fluid.  Hemorrhagic shock is specific to blood loss.

Greg,
BP is measured in mmHg, so to convert
a healthy 650's "BP" is "between 7.1 to 10.3 PSI",
whereas BP normally is read high over low or "10.3/7.1"
Converting 1mmHG = 0.0193367214492099 PSI or 1/f = 51.715075 mmHg/PSI or your Savage's BP is..
"532 over 367"... gonna need to start regimen of Gumout-coumadin in the tank and daily rides.
Therefore, in fact, your BP is
lower than your 650's I hope!!
Besides you would have a heck of a time connecting a sphygmomanometer to plug #18 and mounting an extra tall rascal up on the bars, your 650 would pop this one  ;D:P

You mean you have used sphygmomanometer in more than one post. Good job, not easy.  This is a tough environment to get that word in. I bet over at WebMD.com they throw around sphygmomanometer as often as we say white spacer.
