as one who rode for nearly 15 years in los angeles. the answere is yes.....

you will learn to watch drivers heads and front wheels. they are the first indicator of trouble.

Thanks for the info.  Looks like HB 514 (mandatory jail time for failure to yield right of way causing serious injury or death) is still hanging out there in limbo.

i can foresee alot of squids making life more dangerous for everyone by not reading the entire law change.

at least till they all recieve tickets or are carted off in body bags.

as for me, i rarely encounter traffic doing less than twenty mph on my commute. rob's commute is a probably different story.

The law as written sounds pretty reasonable to me. and those obeing the law should have no difficulities.  i never saw a motorcycle "down" in the 15 years in l.a.

i did collect a few antenna's for my collection.. i even think i knocked a mirror or two off unintentionally of course.  thats my story and i'm sticking to it.

I agree. As written, it should be fine.  Of course, there will be some tards that think they have free reign to ride between cages whenever they wish.

but you know what, i think they believe that already so the law doesn't really apply to them anyway.

I do my best to stick to back roads on this far west side of Houston but when you get stuck the traffic isn't moving 20mph it's moving under 5 mph - so it may come in handy - if the cars don't play tag for fun.

That will cut my commute in half.  Seems like Dallas cager's I.Q. and vision drops to 1/2 when they get behind the wheel, so I'll experiment with caution. I hope they learn to check their mirrors before opening the door to spit tobacky juice.

The law will make it easier to recover damages when they do screw up and hit ya.  :-[

Yeah, most of those are already doing it and doing it wrong but they may think it's become legalized and do it more often and more brazenly.  I guess that could make them targets for the local PD... and you can bet the bike cops on the Dallas freeways will want to put a stop to that.  We'll see.  The Dallas bike cops I've seen so far really seem to respect other riders and don't want careless ones giving the rest a bad name.

Dallas, maybe.  Arlington motorcycle officers are first class guys.

while in los angeles i've had highway patrolmen pull over to let smaller bikes lead the way.  they know it's the only way to ride in heavy traffic.

I was saying I like the Dallas bike cops I've encountered so far.  I'm willing to bet they'll be on top of folks seriously abusing the lane-splitting concept - and I agree with that.  If lane-splitting is done responsibly, it'll be good for all of us.

Reelthing you're in Houston!?!  How did I miss this?  I thought I had the only Savage in town.  I am in NW Harris Co. kind of in the Cypress area.  We will have to meet sometime.  You need to get a pic to Paladin for the map.

Yep we are just a couple of miles from the horse track.  One of our haunts is Crazy Frogs on 249 right before you get to 1960.  A friend of ours has been cooking crawfish there on Sundays.  This coming weekend the crawfish are supposed to be free, but I am expecting to have my daughter and grandaughters in town so probably won't be there.  Sometimes we meet on Wednesday nights at the Blue Water Grill on 1960.  Anyway, sounds like we should be able to work it out to meet for a ride or a beer or whatever.

Sounds good to me - that north wind today was fun  a gusting >20mph tail wind does help you along!
