Title: Quick tire question...
Post by WD on 04/27/05 at 00:59:34

Okay, so the label on the frame neck says the rear tire is a 140-80-15. I'm running a 140-90-15 (fits fine), becausethe dealer couldn't get a stock size replacement in time. My bike did NOT come with a 140/80/15.

Did ANYONE else receive their bike, brand new from the factory no less, with a 130, yes 130-80-15?

I like the ride better with the 140-90, but the 130-80 looked better.

Just curious.

I like the 140/90 I put on mine but the saddlebag supports had to go and I changed the bolts holding the chrome on to shroom-cap hex bolts to ensure it wouldn't rub.  I am toying with the idea of slightly bigger shocks to increase that distance a little more but it's not a priority.

I have a Dunlop D404 size 140-90/15 on the rear and was able to install my saddlebags with the rear wheel on the ground.

I'm running a 140-90 on mine too.  I'm about 6', 200 lbs. and, while I have the shocks set at the stiffest setting, nothing is rubbing.

According to the specs...

Front: 100/90-19 57H
Rear: 140/80-15 67H

This almost right then, for stock tires?

Sorry to take the thread, but since its a tires question I didn't want to make a new one ;D . On a tight budget, any problems with buying Dunlop D404s?

I put the 491's on mine and like 'em just fine.

Yeah, but the 404s are the "economy replacements" which is why I asked ;D

Post above says Paladin has a 404 on the back of his.  Maybe shoot him a PM and see how he likes it.

I got them from Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse (http://www.accwhse.com/dunlop.htm)  who were the best price I could find at the time.  They currently list the front tire for $49.95 shipped and the rear tire for $62.95 shipped -- $112.90 total re-rubber not counting new tubes or mounting.  (I didn't bother with a new tube but will for the next replacement.)  I know what you mean about a tight budget -- Dunlop K491's run $153.90 plus shipping, Metzeler ME880's $195.90 plus shipping; and with two teenage daughters I have to shave costs where I can.

The new front tire is sitting in the garage waiting for more tread to rub off the original front.  The original rear I replaced not too long after I acquired the bike, maybe 5200-5500 miles.  Just turned 7000 miles and I cannot eyeball any reduction in tread depth.
