Title: throttle sticking
Post by McSavage on 05/04/05 at 11:53:51

Recently I've noticed my throttle sticking in 3, 4, and five gears. Only when I open it wide open. Last night in fifth it was bads. It completely stuck and I had to kill the engine. The simple answer is not to run it wide open which I can live with but I would like to know what it may be. I know very little about bikes but would assume this is not a major problem. Hopefully its something I could look at even with my limited knowledge.
Thanks for all responses.

the cable itself might be sticking. they have a cable lubricant kit at most bike shops. really easy to use. not as expensive as replacing the cable.

Also check the routing of the cable. Look for kinks or tight angles. Also go to the carb and check the linkage to see if it binds or sticks. Spray lube to this area.

I took a good look at it and when the throttle was wide open it was slipping behind the vacuum hose getting caught. Re routed the vacuum hose and it is all good now. Thanks for all the advice.
