Title: Air Cut Off Valve? Post by 650-rider on 06/02/05 at 12:50:08 Hello everyone - I have a question. I was surfing on eBay for Suzuki Savage items and I saw "SUZUKI LS650 SAVAGE AIR CUT OFF VALVE". Does anyone know what this is for, and if it is a standard item or an accesory? The description says that it will "enrichen the mixture when the throttle is closed stopping backfiring..". Thanks. |

It's held in place by the round plate to the left of the idle mixture screw. Careful taking it out, there's a spring behind it. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y114/bobo383/IdleMixture.jpg |

It was just the claim that it reduces or stops backfiring that made me wonder whether it was "improved" in any way. I don't remember the price but I think it was around $10 or $12, so I ordered one to see. It was identical to the one in my '98. |

Title: Re: Air Cut Off Valve? Post by slavy on 06/05/05 at 08:02:02 What it does is - it closes the idle mixture AIR passage, so it enrichens the idle mixture when You decelerate. In normal conditions the spring keeps the diaphragm and the plunger in a position so the air passage stays open. If You decelerate with the trottle closed You create a very strong vacuum that pulls on the diaphragm , overcomes the spring ,and the plunger closes the air for the idle circuit . |

And then when you richen the idle screw mixture, all the popping should be gone, right? |
