Title: Floorboards
Post by 650-rider on 07/06/05 at 10:16:34

Hello everyone - I wanted to see if anyone has ever figured out how to fit floorboards to a Savage.  I was looking in the JC Whitney catalog and I don't think they have any specifically for the Savage, but I thought some of us might have experimented with floorboards at some point.

Or maybe most people think it is better to install highway bars with footpegs?

You'll have to fabricate some sort of mounting bracket.

Or you can get the Highway Hawk floorboards designed for the Savage:

J and P Cycles metric catalog. The set for a VS800 Intruder is a direct bolt-on. I own BOTH of the bikes in question. The peg mounts are the same, and the boards mount in place of the pegs.

jpcycles dot com, click on metric. The paper catalog is free by the way in the US...

WD - Thanks for the information - does that mean that most footboards listed for Intruder VS800 should work for a Savage as well?

I have Highway Hawk footpegs on my 2004 and they were a bolt on. If they list floorboards for the Savage it is a safe bet they are a bolt on as well. Some people have dissed the quality of Highway Hawks but mine are comfortable and have held up great so far (about a year).

What I noticed however was that the floorboards were not listed as fitting a 2004. I didn't know whether that's just because they hadn't tested them yet (the latest year listed was 2002) or if there was some difference that would keep them from fitting.

Susan,  Thanks for that information.  I want to buy these footboards, but I am being cautious because they cost around $150.00.  Are they all metal or does the top have rubber on it?  From the pictures I can't tell.  The attached link is the installation instructions, but I can't tell from that either.  It seems like they would have too much vibration if there was not a rubber top.  You can see a picture of them in WD's post listed above.  Thanks.http://www.highwayhawk.com/x_pfiles/Floorboard_Techglide_[5].pdf

Sorry about the link not working - apparently it will not work because the link contains a bracket.

Hi. I found a pic that seems to be the product you are interested in and it looks like there is indeed rubber on top. I got the pic from: http://www.motoleather.com/moflboclhiha.html

P.S. You can modify your original post by clicking on "modify" in the upper righthand corner...

It should be ok. There have not been significant structural differences in the last few years. To see what has changed visit this thread (http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?board=tech;action=display;num=1098969517).

Hello, I have a 1986 Savage, and I recently learned that someone could get accessories for them. My only problem is that I can't find out where!! I live in South-Central Kentucky. Before I found SuzukiSavage.com I thought the Savage was kind of a rare bike. I had never seen another one in person or even heard of someone having one. If anyone could help me out in finding where to get stuff for it, I would GREATLY appriciate it.
                                           Thanks,
                                                 Bengie Hurt ???
