Title: Bike hunting...
Post by WD on 07/10/05 at 00:09:59

The son moved back from California today. Plans to take the chopper within the next week or so...

Guess who's bike hunting? Yup. ME!

I'll be on an 800 Intruder until I find/aquire a new scoot. I'll still be dropping in. Hmm, 62 Duo-glide, 1500 Vulcan or 1600 Road Star?

Poll? NO Hondas or Suzukis... I don't like Shadows or the big Zukes that much...

Hey WD ... please don't go deserting us here!! BTW have you ever considered a Kawi Vulcan 800A? Not "Classic" model with the fatter front tire & fuller fenders, but the "Custom" with the skinny front tire/fender ... closely resembles an H.D. Softtail Standard. Those Vulcans are awesome lookin' bikes and the motor is suppoed to be bullet-proof!
Good Luck with the Bike hunt!

I'd recomend a big trail 'bike DR, KLX,XL etc. You can see over and out accelerate the cages, wheelies too.

I love the Vulcans and every review I have seen seems that they are great bikes.  I like the 1600 mean streak but the 1500s are very nice too.  They seem to be a great value also for the price. My stealership had a deal last week trade a bike worth 1000 and they will get uin a new 1500 classic for 7888  not too shabby , considering the MSRP is $9,599.

I'm ridiculously happy with my VStar 1100.  With a pod air kit, pipes and a new seat, that is...

My dad loves his road star.

What about a victory?

Here are the choices: year unknown Ariel Red Hunter (sat up since the 60s), year unknown BSA Goldstar (ditto, same source), Road Star (normal, the Warrior is uncomfortable as can be), 1500 Vulcan (Drifter maybe), 800 Drifter, year unknown T100R (500cc Triumph vertical twin), generator Big Twin HD, 1950 Chief (same source as BSA and Ariel).

I've test sat Boulevards, Shadows and the V-stars. I don't like the seats on any of them. Except for a Drifter or Chief, anything else would be chopped. Even the Red Hunter. As long as it can easily be made into a running highbar...

I've already passed on a couple alternator case HD big twins. They leak too much oil for my taste.  ::) Although...if the price is right...
