I just purchased a 2005 S40 and have less than 50 miles on it so far. Question: I get a smell of hot or burning rubber after engine is warned up. Is this normal break in or should I take it back to the dealer?

When I purchased my new Savage back in Aug. 2003 I remember that there were a few "new" smells the first few weeks I had it ... put it down to the "newness" burning off ... haven't smelled 'em since 8)

That's normal. Mine has the same smell for the first 200 mi.

Same with my S40. It went away after a few weeks.

Same with our '03 New Beetle -- it's part of the new car / new bike smell that people pay extra for.
