Title: 5200 mile service
Post by Cindi Knox on 09/07/05 at 07:48:16

Just took the LS650 to a new shop.  They found a lot of things needed to be worked on.  I'm kindof wondering whether all these need to be done so soon (5200 miles).  A lot of them are not mentioned in the manual.

change air filter
change oil
change oil filter
change transmission fluid
change differential fluid
lubricate muffler bearings
flush & fill cooling system
front end alignment (they say it pulls to the left - I didn't notice it)
rotate tires
change air in tires
synchronize carburetors

Is all this necessary so soon?

I originally posted that to rec.motorcycles in November of 1997 after riding for three months.  :D

first of all, there is no transmission fluid,it uses the engine oil, second, there is no differential, there fore no differential fluid, third, there is no cooling system,so no need to flush and fill, forth, there is only one carb,so no need to synchronize anything, fivth, ive never heard of rotating the tires on a motorcycle.or lubeing the exhaust

take it to a differant shop, one that is not trying to rip u off!!

good luck

We used to let the air out of tires on certain maintinence intervals and refill them but there definately was NO CHARGE to  do this . its basically to remove any condensation that could have built up in the tire ...but that list is a da*n joke!

Are You sure You brought the Savage to a mc shop? ::)There is no picture of You , but You are probably pretty cute ;) and these guys are just joking with You. I am just curious how come they forgot to mention that They will have to change the blinker fluid and add couple of oz's of compression. ;D
The service is basically to change the oil and filter , to check the valves and to make sure there is correct air pressure in the tires.

How do I know if I'm low on compression?  And what kind of blinker fluid does the Savage use?

It's a joke I posted eight years ago on rec.motorcycles.

Couldn't find one, but there's a loose nut on the saddle.
