Title: Amal carb question... Post by Dan on 09/10/05 at 16:59:02 I've got the 38mm Amal from lancer and put it on earlier this week. It definitely has more power, but I can tell from the black smoke when I roll the throttle at idle (and by the fact that the plug gets so carbon fouled at idle that I have to go full throttle between stop signs to "clean" the plug a bit or it will attempt to die on me when I go to idle again) that it is running very rich... I have the sportster muff installed and a K&N drop in air filter. So, I know there are a thousand postings related to adjusting and tuning the original, but for those that have the Amal, does anyone have any suggestions for me. Mods/adjustments to the the carb? (I don't know how on this carb) Mods/adjustments to the set up I have? I don't have tons of money (who does?), so I would prefer to keep the sportster and drop in, but is there anything else that I could be doing that I am not? Thanks for your help! |

Title: Re: Amal carb question... Post by klx650sm2002 on 09/11/05 at 04:27:21 I don't have any direct experience of the Amal but generally speaking if the tickover mix screw is on the engine side of the carb then out is rich in is lean and the other way round if the screw is on the filter side of the carb, hope this helps. Title: Re: Amal carb question... Post by klx650sm2002 on 09/11/05 at 09:38:28 I've just dug out an old 38mm Amal and it has two screws on the right hand side, one angled upward (idle speed) and one going straight in (fuel mix) from what You say the fuel screw needs to go in a little. Clive W :D |
