Title: The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Post by oatmeal on 09/29/05 at 01:54:57 Well, that's what the old saying is. My less than day-old 2006 S40's front break has developed quite a squeak when I'm using it. That's not good. A day old and making weird noises? :( I'm hoping that that's normal for this sort of break, and that it will go away on its own... |

Title: Re: The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Post by Kropatchek on 09/29/05 at 02:24:48 Well, don't use it. ;) Just kidding! Brakepads have to be broken in, will go away after a while. Greetz Kropatchek ;D |

Title: Re: The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Post by PerrydaSavage on 09/29/05 at 03:17:53 Actually, the front brake squeak is quite normal with the LS650 ... even after the pads have broken in ... the S50/Intruder suffers from this malady too ... nothin' to worry about ... occurs mostly with light braking of the front wheel. Anyhoo ... as I have recently learned, the OEM pads supplied stock on the S40/Savage is pretty much crap and will likely not last much past 3000mi or so ... there's not a lota meat on 'em in the first place!! |

Title: Re: The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Post by savage777 on 09/29/05 at 17:21:09 I mentioned this a short time ago....all you have to do is go to your local jobber (auto parts store ) and get some "brake quiet" . its basically graphite in a solution that you soak the pads in for 10 or 15 min let dry and then reinstall. stuff works great . we use it where I work (new car dealership ) when we get cheap aftermarket pads for our pre-owned dept. |

Title: Re: The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Post by SavageDude on 09/29/05 at 19:51:12 My squeaking comes and goes at times; but I leave it as is because it lets me know that the front brake is working ;D ;D ;D |

Title: Re: The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Post by slavy on 09/29/05 at 21:29:03 The cheapest fix- take the pads out and cover the back side liberally with silicone. Works 80-90% of the time. |

Title: Re: The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Post by diesel on 09/29/05 at 21:30:57 had to replace pads at 3200 mi. paper thin, would never have looked at them if it had'nt been for this board. organic EBC'S, 32 bucks at stealers, did'nt want to wait for mail order. at NAPA, can of anti-squeel compound, kinda salty at 13 bucks a can, paint compound on back of pads where they contact piston and caliper, 2000 mi since installation, not a peep from front brake YET. I use it quite heavely, 70% of brake, ya know. diesel. |

Title: Re: The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Post by PerrydaSavage on 09/30/05 at 03:31:38 diesel, my original equipment pads are shot too at exactly the same milage as you ... though I'm pretty easy on the brakes. Ordered a set of SBS ceramic pads from a local Honda/aftermarket dealer last evening. slavy ... what kinda liberal coating of silicone do you use? The stuff in an aerosol spray can? If so, I got a can of that out in the shed ... |

Title: ,Re: The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Post by slavy on 09/30/05 at 12:13:08 I am using any kind of RTV silicone in a tube like a tooth paste. What it does is it coats with rubberlike film the brake pad and it muffles the vibrations of the brake pad / like if the door bell is ringing and You pur Your finger on the bell - almost no sound/ . Many years ago a very good mechanic showed that to me and I have been using it always. |

Title: Re: The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Post by Savage_Rob on 09/30/05 at 12:20:19 I just use heavy brake grease. |

Title: Re: The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Post by diesel on 09/30/05 at 19:11:37 that NAPA anti squeel stuff comes in a small can, it has a brush on the lid, kinda like neversieze, looks like thick black paint. instructions say to coat back of pad area that only contacks pistion and caliper. not a sound from pads YET. like I said, da## salty at 13 bucks a can, but enough for many, many pads.diesel |

Title: Re: The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Post by Ed_L. on 09/30/05 at 19:40:53 I've been using something simular that comes in a spray can. Been using it on automotive disk brakes for years. It is a blue color sort of like a spray glue, once applied to the back sides of the pads you let it sit till tacky then assemble. |

Title: Re: The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Post by clueless on 10/01/05 at 04:41:13 My local auto parts store had anti-squeel in a small pack kinda like a ketchup pack from a fast food place. 2 packs for a couple of bucks. Just right, no squeeks, worked well. |

Title: Re: The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Post by mpescatori on 10/02/05 at 23:45:31 ??? OK just collected my Savage (last Friday actually) and BOY! do I now understand the term monkey a$$! The reason I'm writing though is because of rear brake squeal. I mean, the rear drum does not squeal, it rather shreaks, like an old freighter train ; I actually think the rear shoes are down to the bare bones, and wonder what product codes you could suggest as aftermarket items OR better even if Marauder/Intruder/Whatever shoes are compatible. No canhce of getting OEM parts for a 1988 bike here in Italy, not if it's a Jap!!! Maurizio |

For some expendable part you can try http://www.louis.de It's a German firm that sells a lot of spareparts for the Savage, just fill in the Motobase and you get a list. Also the German forum:www.ls-650.de has a list of suppliers. Goodluck Greetz Kropatchek ;D |
