Title: Best of 2006?
Post by Savage_Rob on 10/11/05 at 17:28:42

Take a look at this beauty.  This is the 2006 Triumph Scrambler.  Picture Steve McQueen in The Great Escape.

Back in 1969 I had my heart set on a BSA 650 Firebird Scrambler...it looked a lot like this one.

Good looking bike - not real heavy and looks to have good power.

Fuel Tank Capacity 16.6 litres (4.4 gal US)
Maximum Power 55PS (54bhp) at 7,000 rpm

8)No doubt about it, Triumph seem to be carving a niche these days with some of the most interesting Bikes in the marketplace ... that Scrambler is a real all-purpose, all-weather motorcycle. And that brute-of-a Rocket III ... what canya say about that but Whoaa!!
But, I'm generally a Cruiser/Standard kinda guy, so I still consider the Bonneville & the Bonneville America Trump's best!

Triumphs have without a doubt been my first choice in bikes for a while now. Someday one will be mine. I've always thought that the British knew what they were doing when it came to styling. IMO these bikes just look right, like a motorcycle should. The T100 has been my top contender since they increased the cubes a bit after they came out with the Thruxton (which is also sweet), but this scrambler is just absolutely stunning. The gaitors complete the looks, I always felt they were missing from the new bonneville. Maybe if I one it I too can be a ton-uppper.

Since we're talkin' the Best of 2006, then my first place vote goes to Harley Davidson, for the new '06 FXD Street Bob ... IMHO the best lookin' Cruiser to roam the boulevard!

In the mid 80's I restored, and put a lot of miles on a 1970 Triumph high piper which is the precursor to the latest Scrambler, and I would say there is no issue with roasting your legs on the pipes. It just doesn't happen.

Man, those britts know how to build bikes.  My next one will be a triumph speed triple:

I just love the stubby tail and exhaust, and the dual headlight...

My friend's old man has an old Norton that's a basket case.  When I finish up with my 1975 Yamaha RD 350,

I'm gonna see if I can get his old norton.  ;D[img]

On the scrambler though, 32.5" seat height... blech
small rake at 27.8 deg... should handle reasonably well... don't liekt he single disk in front, though...

Triumph continues to peak my interest with bikes like that. I always liked the Bonneville, especially the current T-100 but bikes like that always seemed just out of reach from me. Bills, car repairs, etc. Maybe that'll be a retirement gift to myself in 10 years!  ;D
I think the new 675 triple is going to rough up the middleweight sportbike class next year.  ;)

I ride a '05 Triumph Bonneville Black, it's one sweet bike. Fast nimble and good looking just like my old Triumph back in the day. I'ts not a vegitarian either it will eat a hog. ;D

Love my 99 Legend. Great handling, very fast for a standard, good tourer ( did 5500 km Arizona to Ontario in 6 days). Couldn't do that on my Savage. Low maintenance. For around town though, the Savage is the best.

Hey! I'm close to you, I've had 25 bikes in 35 years ;D

Good show r80rt. What was your favourite? Mine was a 66 Suzuki X6 Hustler. It would smoke Triumphs, BSAs and Nortons in a 1/4 mile. Least likeable was a recent Sporty. The Savage is wonderful, and the Legend is the best bang-for-the-buck ever.

It would be hard to pick a favorite, probably  the '84 BMW R80/RT that I did the Saddle Sore 1000 on, or a '69 BSA Thunderbolt. But like you the least favorite was a '72 XLCH Sportster. I've had six Harleys, I'll never own another one. Wait, I just remembered the Ural with a sidecar, that makes 26 bikes! The slowest bike I had was a '40 BSA M20, a plodding 500cc flathead, about 45 mph was all it wanted but it would do it forever. Honestly I liked them all. Next bike will probably be a Triumph Thruxton but I'm keeping the Bonneville.
