Title: Brake Light

Does anyone know if a LED upgrade is on the market for the S40/Savage brake light? I would like to get something brighter than the stock unit?

Yeah, I have seen them on Ebay. A friend of mine put one on his Guzzi and he claimed it was not as bright as he expected, in fact he said there was little change.

I've seen a few of these aftermarket LED brake light inserts installed and have yet to see one as bright as the stock bulb ... aren't LED's supposed to be brighter than ordinary bulbs?

The ones I have seen were brighter, they also use less power and last longer.

I guess there is a difference in the manufacts. in regards to brightness.

Instead of replacing the brake light, why don't you add this
http://www.hyperlites.com/prod.html to it.

I will give you more visiblity for the cagers

If you REALLY want to increase your visibility make sure you do your research and get LEDs that have been tested. Many companies claim that theirs are brighter and they are... to an extent. LEDs have a small viewing angle. If you are looking at them exactly straight from dead center then they are really bright. If not they get dim really quickly. Another thing to think about is with LEDs since the light is only thrown straight back the light does not fill the whole brake light housing, since it is not bouncing off the reflector.

I got a 1157 LED replacement bulb and from what I could tell it is every bit as bright as the standard one. I think it was in a Cabella sporting goods catalog, if not that then campmor.  I had one of those from Kissan that did the decaying flash rate but before it came on solid. Seems like the electronics in the adapter took a hike and it doesn't work. It does have bright bulb when it works correctly.
