Title: 06 Newbie
Post by SeeAPierce on 10/15/05 at 00:36:07

Been lurking a while and wanted to say "hello".  I almost bought a Savage in 2001, but got divorced instead  :P.  With things looking up (like gas prices) I just took ownership of a 2006 S40 a few weeks ago.  Being new to street riding I'm keeping to "da hood" right now so 50 miles around town the 1st weekend and 50 miles the 2nd.  Plan to do another 50 or so this weekend as I get used to the bike.  So far I get a poof on shutdown and only the very occational backfire on hard decel.  I've learned so much from this forum already and I'm sure I'll have many more questions as time and miles pass.

Yeah, back in '98 I traded my wife in for a bike and got the better end of the deal!   ;D

Ya know why divorce is so expensive?
It's worth it!

Funny how divorce and bikes can be related :)

I lost my Yam XS850 during the tail spin of divorce, too.  Welcome back from the dead!

Welcome!

I know what you mean about gas prices.  I brought my S40 to the dealership for some adjustments recently, and two people asked if I would sell it.

I think these little commuter bikes are going to become even more popular.

Welcome to THE Savage - S40 forum.
And yes, the poof and the occasional backfire, I like it.
That's a real thumper.
If you don't, there's  lot of posts that will tell you how to get rid of it.

I just got a savage and back into riding in March and your experiences remind me of that and how things have changed so quickly.  I have a short commute in the country to work and when i first started riding again, each day i would come home and tell my wife, "today, i got it up to 66 km. hr...." next day it was 70 and then 72 and so on....hard to believe now how slow i was going!  have fun with the suzi - it makes every little drive of mine something to look forward to!
