Title: Fast Oil Change Possible Contest
Post by jbrough7 on 10/15/05 at 02:51:51

Hey - I just changed the oil for the first time and I swear it took me less than ten minutes!  Piece of cake, really and that little oil filter is way cute!  What's your fastest time??  (and please NO lectures about haste makes waste blah blah blah)

Just had my bike for a few months but I gotta say I really love it.  Go riding with some buddies and they all laugh cuz my suzi is the smallest bike there and I'm the biggest guy!  But they all park theirs in garages when it gets sloppy and my little suzi just loves inclement weather.

Could be their bikes are worth $8000 and I picked mine up for $800.  Best deal I ever made (other than marriage)

I take about 20 minutes 'cause after it's done draining I lean it to the right, & then back on the sidestand & a little more comes out. I do that 3 times to get that last drop.

How long does it take to drink a 6 pack?  I don't like to wear a watch when I'm doing mechanical stuff.
:P

Yeah, I also typically allow plenty of time for the oil to drain and do the back and forth trying to make sure it's all gone. I even wipe out the filter housing :-/ If I was on the road changing it (without a torque wrench), I'd say 10 minutes would be a good time.

I just spend the time while the oil is draining to check and torque things. A for example of the things I've noticed while doing this - I'm afraid the gasket on the connection from the engine to the exhaust header is slowly crushing since each time I've torqued it it has turned at least 1/4 turn before reaching torque (same setting, same wrench).
