Title: Re: Desperate to ride. Post by Tony on 10/17/05 at 04:09:59 I am in the Mid Hudson Valley of NY. It is about 90 Mi north of NYC. I decided yesterday to ride. The rained had stopped and the roads dried out. But darn! it was cold. I had on all my leathers and a full helmet but i still froze. It took a while to warm up afterwards. I guess I should have made the ride a little less than I did. I was out for about 4 hours. Got in about 130 Miles. I think the bike is getting stored this week. |

Title: Re: Desperate to ride. Post by Tony on 10/17/05 at 04:13:03 AZ is a little to warm for me. Though I dont mind a couple days over 90, That would be about it. I am definetly a Temperate climate person. I have been tring to convince my wife to move to North Carolina though. She just wont do it. To many realatives in the area. |

I guess that's all relative. Though we certainly recognize the spans of high 90's and 100+ days as hot, I think most of us in the Southwest think of our climes as temperate and would think of winters much further north as being unreasonably chilly. I mean, no fuel stabilizers and winterizing treatments are needed here. I guess I'll always be a Texan at heart, though I definitely have a fondness for the Pacific Northwest. Note: There's still a heck of a lot of this country I've never seen personally. With a few minor exceptions, if you run a diagonal line from Washington State to Georgia, the SW half is pretty much my experience. |

Title: Re: Desperate to ride. Post by Tammi on 10/17/05 at 07:18:18 Yes, cold is relative. I'm in Minnesota. I got up early Sunday morning for a ride, and it was in the upper 30s (F) when I started out at 7:00 a.m. For the most part, I was toasty warm, with leather pants, a Joe Rocket Meteor jacket (w/ liner) and leather gloves (no vents). The weak link was the gloves ... my hands were the only part of me that got cold. The leather just transferred the cold directly to my skin. But, with different gloves ... or maybe heated grips ... I think I can ride until the snow flies, maybe mid-November. Cheers. Tammi |

Title: Re: Desperate to ride. Post by Jim_R on 10/17/05 at 11:01:05 I know u can heated gloves. I remember last year when I got my bike I rode it all thru winter. I didnt care it was 32 degrees outside. All I had were some cheap target gloves and most of the time they were cold. maybe I can get some electric socks and put them in the lining of my coat lol. I bet it would be kewl to have some in ur seat. Ahh nice and toasty. |

Title: Re: Desperate to ride. Post by savage777 on 10/17/05 at 18:28:36 My dad's BMW has heated grips, and his winter gear plugs into the bike. it heats the boot liners, britches, vest and helmet . Sounds kinda excessive but he rides all year unless we get ice. As soon as they plow and salt WE RIDE! I on the other hand just layer up and enjoy the (shrinkage). I mean the ride! |

Title: Re: Desperate to ride. Post by Trippah on 10/17/05 at 18:35:06 NO rain today- was sooo glad to get back on the savage for my commute to work. The windshield really helps but, when the road starts to frost over- its over. It's not quite yet time for the boston natives' favorite saying .."Wait till next year!" |

Title: Re: Desperate to ride. Post by Savage_Rob on 10/18/05 at 06:26:56 Aerostich (http://www.aerostich.com/) has a good selection of quality riderwear. Their quality is always excellent and they have some pretty good prices on the gloves. They offer several types including some winter gloves with 3M Thinsulate. They also have some liners you can use with your current gloves. I also noticed that NewEnough.com has a few TourMaster gloves/liners (http://www.newenough.com/product_group_gloves_tourmaster.htm) at reasonable prices. |

Title: Re: Desperate to ride. Post by RadarORiley on 10/18/05 at 08:05:27 Haven't done any serious winter riding for a number of years but winter is never too serious in Parker County, Texas. I remember putting plastic sandwich bags on over my socks before riding in the 60's. Kept them warm and toasty, Have some "space" material socks I use for winter fishing, plan to try them for riding this year, also have gloves of the same material. they work great out on the boat in winter so expect them to do the same while riding. bought them from www.sportsmansguide.com they have all kinds of goodies. It's still in the 90's here so I haven't even thought about cold yet. |
