Title: Paint Job?
Post by Weez on 10/26/05 at 04:01:12

Hey all,

I have always loved greg's paint job on his bike.  I'd like to get it in blue and black.  I ws just wondering what you guys like for paint jobs, whether it be what you have or your fantasy air brushed tank.  I've searched a few times but found very little.

Thanks

Weez

I've always loved yellow and if I get my dark blue savage done, I think that's what it will be.  I think it reminds me of my first love - a yellow cb400F with that nice, flowing, 4 into 1 exhaust in 1975!  Funny, I just saw a pic of the same bike and it didn't really do anything for  me! ???

Yah i would like to paint my own, i've done some dupli-color chrom rattle canning on some parts that were caroded.  How do you go about painting your own?  Could I just get some real good rattlecans and some clear coat for after I sanded and primed it?

all i have is a 20 gallon air compressor, siphon feed spray gun, detail gun,and thats it.

after u get the old paint off (i sand blasted it),bondo any dents, then primer it, three coats should do it,then sand that down, then spray your base coat ,four coats is good, then sand that, then spray three or four coats of clear.

u use 200 grit sandpaper for the primer, and use 2000,yes 2000 grit for base coat, and for the clear coat use both sandpaper(2000 grit),and rubbing compound.

be sure u let the bondo set at least 24 hours because it will shrink, and let off some air pockets.

Color Rite has the proper type of clearcoat to avoid that.  They call it the Aerosol KK7 Urethane Clear Kit (http://www.color-rite.com/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=866).  It's a catalyzed clearcoat (similar to an epoxy in my understanding).  It has multiple parts you mix then spray and they harden.  I need to use it myself the next time I do mine because the rattlecan stuff I used is susceptible to gas also.

Hey I found out that if u mix urea (45-46% nitrogen) with water and follow these steps off this webpage u can do the same thing.   Im sure it would be alot cheaper than 80 a quart.

I just need to find me some urea fertilizer and do some practicing. :)
