Title: moving seat back
Post by savage777 on 10/26/05 at 07:28:47

All this talk about  longer shocks....  I wish I could move my seat back 6" or so without removing the rear fender.  I cant find any affordable forward controls. I cant seem to keep my nuts off the gas tank and my knees out of my elbows. I'm only 5'11 maybe 6' but Im on the verge of bein to big.  I NEED TO STRETCH OUT.... The seat mod just isn't enough.

777:  I moved the my seat up and back about three inches and, since i have the flatter bars, i was able to loosen them and turn them down and away from me.  seems to fit better.  I just used little pieces of angle iron to move the seat back and then i supported it in the front with joist hangers left over from building the house.  am just now in the process of sewing up something to fill in the space between the seat and the tank...i'll post a pic when i'm done...good luck!

Im with u on that one,it seems like all the bigger shocks would do is lean u even more towards the tank,i have highway pegs on now,but im going to start working on some forward controls, because the highway pegs are kinda dangerous around town  ::)

ps im 5'9 and feel cramped on the stock savage,i dont know how much u raised the nose of your seat, but i made mine out of a piece of aluminium bent like this

                               ...............
                               .
                               .
                               .
                               .
                               .
                               .
                               .
                               .
                               .
                   .........

the bottom bolts on the gas tank, and the top slides into the lip on the seat.

see I like the look of the bobber Torqe but I gotta leave the arse end of mine alone for the other half to ride so I'm kinda leanin toward highway bars for the time bein but where to find some affordably. @ 25  I' m on a tight budget as well as still payin for the bike itself!  the drag bars are by far more comfortable but at the same time  the bring me too far forward. I want the risers off like a new s83 to bring the bars back to me without changin the drag bar look ya  dig?

I've often thought a seat from something like a 1975 h2 triple kawa - ie. long and flat would be good as you could slide your arse back and forth as the mood fit...I don't think it would be that much trouble as the back would sit on the fender with few mods but the front would take a bracket or two and it would just look crappy with the tiny teardrop up there.

I've thought about it, but it just seems like the frame is the wrong shape for a seat like that.

I'd love to see someone try it though.  Make sure to get pictures!

Had a though tonite looking at the suzi - how about a metal add-on that isn't a real tank but it just kinda covers the one we have so it totally changes the shape - ie. boxier...might give it a try.

I'm over 6' but I don't have the problem, what's wrong?  ??? I'm getting the parts together to build my own forwards, but that's just for the fun and show.... A lot of you guys have seen my candy-list so to say and I think forwardcontrols are necessary to make it look better, but that's all....

You're absolutely right on - it's just the looks - I'm 6'4" and yet it feels okay to me...it's just my family and the gas station guy giggling at me with my knees in my face that has got me moving the seat! >:(

When I had the pullback bars on there it wasn't a  prob but the drag bars are too short

Is there a bit of an angle to them?  Turn 'em around away from you!
