Title: I know, I know we've done this before - mileage
Post by mornhm on 10/27/05 at 10:50:36

Just calculated the mpg for my last 5,000 miles (first calculation was at about 2,000 miles was 49.4 mpg)

Latest mileage (thru summer into fall on all kinds of roads) 49.0 mpg

Not 50 but I'll take it.

I was disheartened because at one point I was getting 57 MPG, but I'm averaging 51 MPG as of last week when I checked it.  I'm also doing mostly city/suburb and highway mixed about 50/50 with the highway being anything from stop & go to around 75 MPH.  That's inconsistent but it's real-world usage.  I don't know if removing the snorkel this past weekend has had any effect on my mileage yet.  I hadn't thought to check recently.  I really should do a 200 mile freeway run at 65 MPH to see what my approximate best-case scenario is these days.

This is a good topic . I think it's ok to periodically review it.
in my case i bought a 98 with 16k and a screaming eagle but no white spacer or jet mods.
i averaged 70mpg happily jaunting around massachusettes whilst chasing down juvenile parole violators.

at 18k i shaved 1/2 the white spacer off and increased the stock 145 to a 152.5.main jet. immediately my mileage dropped to 50 mpg, where it lingered until today.BUT it stopped virtually all backfires
after checking the plug last night and finding it sooty;much like picture #2 in the reading spark plugs post;i firured it was running too rich so i turned the mixture screw in about a turn. this got me about 74 mpg BUT at the expense of frequent backfiring.

other than trial and error how will i ever get her so the plug has that nice tan color ?

Pulled the plug on my LS a few weeks ago ... wasn't tan (have never had one that color ...), but only slightly blackened, not sooty or oily. I always put a fresh plug in every Fall prior to storage, whether she needs it or not.
My Bike seems to give around 50 to 55mpUSg most of the time ... it's bone stock with no performance mods whatsoever ... have gotten milage in the 70's occassionally when doing a lazy rual Ride with no stop n' go, and a constant moderate speed. My old Rebel would give 70's in the city.

On the early models it was but it changed in 1995.  I believe it's not just the jet that changed either; that the carb is actually a bit different too.  Please take a look at the reference post Carb Specs. (http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?board=tech;action=display;num=1098869040) in the Technical Corner.

My sister in-law emailed this link to me. If you put in your zip code it shows where the cheapest gas is in your area. I hope this works:
