Title: What did you pay for your savage?
Post by jbrough7 on 10/31/05 at 16:44:06

Just wondering cuz the guy at the stealership told me older bikes, if they are running, are worth $1000.  Doesn't much matter what you have done to it!

I've got an '88, it had 5000 km.-paid $1500 (Canadian)
(that's total for everything to get it safetied, etc.)

Anyone else want to share?

I bot my 2003 savage from dealer with 350 miles on it in May of 2004. Now (Nov, 2005) have 4500 miles and absolutely no problems. paid $4,100.

My '96 was purchased in '99 for $3700.  In '01 the road delt it a fatal blow, but it was resurrected.  The insurance company valued it at $4600.  I wanted to keep it so they gave me the bike back plus $3450...not a bad deal, everything considered.
That is when I had the engine rebuilt with cam and cyl upgrades.

In 2002 I bought my '96 for $2100.  It had a mere 145 miles on it (it wasn't even broken in yet!).  After keeping it for three years and putting another $500 or so into it, I sold it last year for $1800 on ebay.

Last November I paid $2500 for my 2003 with 3000 miles on it. Tank had been repainted and had minor scrapes that you had to look for to find, had a  new front tire. Bought my daughter a 2004 a few months later for $3000. Hers had no scratches, scrapes or bruises, 3500 miles.

Bought my '03 new in Aug. 2003 from a dealership in Toronto, Ontario for $4599Cdn sticker price ... of course shipping to Nfld., prep, taxes & lic. were extra ... still came in cheaper than the 2003 MSRP of $6099Cdn.

The person who told You that is full of s*it. He is not only useless- he is just harmful. These are one of the very best beginners bikes. They are more comfortableand way more versatile than the Rebel. We have been into this soooo many times. I don't know the Canadian prices, but in Az You should be able to get at least $1500 for a nice clean Savage.

I got my 2002 Savage in October, 2004 with 7500 miles.....$1900.00 w/title, tax, tags, etc. (about $1600 before all the beurocratic stuff) from a BMW dealer in NYC. Drove it home in rush hour traffic on a Friday afternoon. Listing on e-bay went up to about $2400 but I had it home for 3 days already.
This poor bike did not know what a cover or tarp was, let alone a garage. It ran O.K. out the door, but I'm still working on getting her up to snuff.
For whatever it's worth.

I paid $750 (Canadian), plus it needed a brake job, carb clean (I did myself) and a safety inspection.

It's and '88, 27000 km.

It was filthy, barely started when I got it.
Runs like a swiss watch now, loads of fun!

Hi- picked up a 2003 this past summer for $2500. (USD). story was man's teenage daughter bought it, rode it home and almost hit a deer, two years later still couldn't or wouldn't ride it  All of 33 miles on it, now has about 900. Going in for service soon. (well, when the snows hit).

Wow,  2000 off list and in cherry shape, you got a great deal there!  I paid 3600 in 2003 for my '01 with most of the goodies (windscreen, saddlebags, "engine guard")  The fella selling it said his wife just wouldn't ride it, so he had been.  Had just over 600 on the odometer.  If it could handle his 6'6"  300lbs. frame, i figured it was big enough for me.  8) And people say I look like Grape Ape on there. ;D

I stole my 96 for 1,000.00 this year in June. Bike only had 4k on it when I bought it. Guy was selling it because he hated how it backfired and didn't want to spend any money to fix it.  ;D He was the first owner...

I got mine for a great price:  a 2000 Savage, with only 7,415 kms. on it, in great shape for $2899.00 Canadian.
I have since ordered saddle bags, a windshield, and an engine guard.  I also am waiting to receive a maintenance manual too.

I'm actually the 4th owner of this bike, but I intend on being the last owner of this bike.  I love it, and plan to keep it as long as I can.

I'd seen other Savages advertized, but they were newer and more expensive.

I just found this forum, GREAT PLACE! Just bought my S40 (2005), used from a private owner on 11-04-05. Bike had been purchased for former owners wife, but she dropped it and refused to give it another try. Small dent in tank, some scratches on mirror, pegs, headlight and brake lever. Has 2600 miles, saddle bags, visors and no keys for fork lock. I really like everything about the bike with the exception of the "sewing machine" sound. I paid $2900.

There are also a few aftermarket exhaust upgrades that will improve that sound but most, if not all of them, will make it significantly louder too.  I love the sound of my MAC muffler but I wish it was maybe 25% quieter than it is.

"Discovered" the Savage last winter and bought mine on ebay in the spring. It's a 2000 that had 28 miles on it...short story is the owner had an accident first day she had the bike home from the dealer and bent the forks...bike sat around for 4 years, then a guy bought the bike as salvage, replaced the forks w/used ones, and sold it on ebay. I got it for $1900 and I've never been happier w/a bike or a deal!

ps- there sure are a lot of good ebay deals on Savages on ebay right now!

I'm gonna take a look right now!  Your bike reminds me of my brother-in-law's ninja - brand new, just had 40 miles on it.  a lady bought it and drove it home but crashed in her driveway and wouldn't ever ride it again.  she took it back my bro got it way cheaper with just a few scratches on it!  he wanted to replace the ninja stickers, though, and kawi wanted a fortune for new ones.

Yet, it was the cheapest I could find, and it drove all the way home, too (500+ miles!)

Hi
I got my bike a couple of months ago, it's a 1986 and I paid $800 for it.  The oil was leaking at the time so I put a new plug in it and that fixed it.  It has 6,000 miles on it and a small scrape on one side panel.  Otherwise, it runs perfectly and looks great, no rust.  I did see another 86 sell on Ebay for $810 in think in PA.
Hope that helps!
