Title: Honda CB750 Gas Tank on LS650 Frame Post by Aktlingit on 11/16/05 at 15:40:05 While doing on going research to find a larger tank to mount on the LS650 frame that starts out single tube 1 7/8" for 5" then Y out to 6" for 10.5" finding a larger tank is a challenge. Having ridden the Honda CB750 in the distant past I thought that I would investigate if this tank (it has a wide tunnel) might just fit on the LS650. My problem is that there are not any CB750 around to see if this might be a fit. Various years have the petcock on the right and some years have the petcock on the left. Any one out there have access to a CB750 (early 70's)tank to see if this might work? Another tank to consider my be the early CB500. Any suggestions? Regards from Alaska |

My feeling is it might actually be a safer bet to replace the pettythingy with a manually operated fuel tap, as ina all 'propa' bikes... Guzzis, BMWs, Ducatis, etc. They work just fine with 'propa' carbs such as Dell'Orto or Bings. The issue is, I'm not comfortable with soldering a metal plate to blank out the pettythingy hole... Title: Re: Honda CB750 Gas Tank on LS650 Frame Post by Felipe on 11/20/05 at 00:16:34 Over on Bert's pages way back Peter the Blacksmith detailed how he replaced the tank on his Savage with the 15.5 litre tank from a Kawasaki Vulcan. Said to be an almost straight, no mods necessary fit. |

Title: Re: Honda CB750 or CB450 Gas Tank on LS650 Frame Post by Aktlingit on 01/09/06 at 15:21:12 Due to my location I have not be able to locate either a CB750, CB500 or CB450 gas tank to see how close they will bolt on with minimum modification. I have read Peter the Blacksmith tank conversion but the Honda CB750 and what might be a closer fit might be the Honda CB450 tank. Does any one have access to these early 70's tanks to see how close of a fit that are? Regards from Alaska |
