Title: Which alternative carburetor? Post by mpescatori on 11/18/05 at 03:02:31 Hi all, I'm looking for a bolt-on replacement for my carb while I have it serviced, and I've seen this ad on ebay.it, is it a good alternative to the stock Mikuni? Or is it exactly the same? MIKUNI depression CARBURATOR model BST40 It seem new and never used; i don't have a motorbyke, so i never used it. It seem in very good condition, as yoo can see in the following images. It was never dismounted nor hacked in any way. One of the pipe in it has an original plastic cap that close it. Data on the carb says: BST40 237 A K562 Or would a Mikuni 37mm off a DR400 enduro be a better choice? Or a Dell'Orto 35? ...or TWIN Dell'orto drla 36 carbs off a Beetle ;D Maurizio |

Title: Re: Which alternative carburetor? Post by Savage_Rob on 11/18/05 at 19:14:10 The BS40 is the one used on the Savage/S40. The BST40 is used on the Suzuki DR650 as well as an Aprilia and a KTM and it does look different. Title: Re: Which alternative carburetor? Post by mpescatori on 11/23/05 at 14:13:01 Well, the auction's over, I've just won a (claimed) new old stock Mikuni BST 40 for a whopping E.30.50c, which is roughly $35. So compared to the selling rate quoted by Reelthing it was a steal more than a bargain !!! ;D Hoping this wasn't an impulsive purchase, how much improvement is there between the BS40 and the BST40? I understand the BST is an evolution of the BS, and Savage_Rob explains it is used on the DR650 (slightly different engine, and certainly more power) so what is there to be gained? Snappier response? Less fuel economy in city driving but crisper throttle on the twisty bits? Anyone? By the way, I also won that 8" round air filter w/housing, which I'll fit on the right side, where the air box lid is, should look nice and leave room for a proper tool box under the seat. Maurizio |
