Title: is it normal?
Post by kikuchiyo on 11/21/05 at 16:02:06

I run out of gas on the highway. After pulling over to the shoulder I switched to reserve,- but bike would not start... engine would turn and turn for nothing. After five minutes after pulling choke it started. Bike is new 05, 3500miles. Should I be concerned?

That's is normal if you let it run dried before swithching to Reserve. I have an 05 too and had the same problem. It won't start until I pulled the choke out all the way ???

If you run it dry before you switch to res and the engine dies - it'll restart much better if you switch it to pri and let the carb bowl fill back up - otherwise it can take a lot of cranking to create enough vacuum to let enough gas into the bowl so the jet can pick any up

I've got an older 95 model and when I run ouf ot gas all I have to do is switch it to reserve when I am still coasting and hit the starter.

Same here - the '95 will start right back up but the '02 is a bit harded to restart.

'95 was the US return year - mine has a build date 11/94 guess it was really early off the boat

I just flip the lever to the pri position and my 2005 starts right up.

I feel jealeous, we can't even buy them any more! (and new ones would be some $8000  ::))
