Title: Head cover chrome side panels necessary?
Post by rokrover on 11/29/05 at 08:02:27

I think the motor looks more mechanical without those chrome left-right side panels but was wondering if they serve a purpose like an air deflector for cooling?  The older models didn't have them so this leads me to suspect they are just a styling feature.  Any harm just leaving them off?

They are just for looks.  If you like the look of the engine without them...then take the little suckers off....I did.  I like the naked look too.

Not so, every Savage has them.

I still have mine on but I'm beginning to think it's just added weight.

Is it possible to take them off without taking the tank off? I briefly looked, and it seems there are 4 bolts on the top that keep those panels and 2 (bolts) are not easy to reach.

took them off my '86 when it was new, when the tank comes off my '03, they'll find a place on my storage shelf too.      diesel.

Hmmm  ... I am actually looking for these

(Only because I am restoring an old '86) and I just got done finding a left side cover, now anyone have a right side cover they want to dispose of?  ;D

I'll take them if you want them gone.

That is a Supertrapp, made for an 80's model Yamaha or Kawasaki Maxim/Gpz something, and modified to fit my Savage....Looks good...NO??
