Title: Bike cover, outside storage, condensation? Post by mmosel on 12/03/05 at 18:58:22 Fortunately, I'm currently blessed to live in Northern California where it doesn't get too cold, and there are patches of dry, sunny days throughout the winter. Unfortunately, it rains alot and I don't have a garage to store my bike. Argh. I have a basic, cheap bike cover - I think it's plastic. It keeps the elements off of it, but the cover doesn't breath and I notice that at night condensation forms under the cover and on the bike. Double Argh. I guess I'm going to look for a cover that breathes so that the condensation doesn't turn to mildew. Also, when it's dry, I take the cover off and let her dry out real good. If you don't have a garage, like me, what do you do? Is there anything more I should do or be aware of? I just want to protect my baby the best I can. :) ;D |

Title: Re: Bike cover, outside storage, condensation? Post by Paladin on 12/03/05 at 19:20:08 Do you have room for a small yard shed? They have 4x10 steel sheds that mount next to the house or garage. Or you could build a 6x8 shed with a 4 foot wide front door. Plus it places the bike in lockable storage. |

Title: Re: Bike cover, outside storage, condensation? Post by mmosel on 12/03/05 at 19:48:26 Well, that's a great idea, except that the shed has already been 'expanded' into a studio. There isn't enough room for another one. I could probably put one at my dad's place, but it's an hour and a half away! That's just too far, because I'm going to be riding her! |

Title: Re: Bike cover, outside storage, condensation? Post by clueless on 12/04/05 at 05:50:17 Until I got a storage shed, rust on the chrome was my biggest problem. Does not take long, and will form in places you never thought of. |

Title: Re: Bike cover, outside storage, condensation? Post by gazab44 on 12/04/05 at 06:27:33 I spray the crome with wd40, or smear vasolene on it..looks unsightly but stops the rust. |

Title: Re: Bike cover, outside storage, condensation? Post by mmosel on 12/04/05 at 14:32:31 Yeah, I'm worried about rust and mildew. I will try the wd-40 or something like it. Anything to protect the chrome! This is not a sales pitch - but I found this cover on Amazon - it looks better than the plastic one that I currently have. It breathes, which will allow the moisture to evaporate. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0009KAODY/ref=wl_it_dp/102-9830550-5232911?%5Fencoding=UTF8&coliid=IZ97YMPDWW4D&v=glance&colid=1P6VIJYXKOVXS |

Title: Re: Bike cover, outside storage, condensation? Post by Ed_L. on 12/04/05 at 15:31:14 Keep the gas tank full so the moisture doesn't collect on the inside of the tank. It will keep rust from forming. |

This looks interesting.... http://www.motorcyclecaresecrets.com/main.php?page=products Update: What I ended up getting is "protectAll" which is supposed to be a wonder product. I'll see. Probably going to get a new cover that breathes also. |
