Title: Tank Seams?
Post by vroom1776 on 01/03/06 at 16:37:35

Hey gang,

Well, I hate tank seams.

If I "gently" take a hammer to my tank seams, is there any chance it will hold gas afterwards?

What about cutting/grinding and welding (after the gas is drained and the tank allowed to air out completely)?

Keep in mind I don't really care about looks except for getting rid of the seams.  So dents and scuffed spraypaint aren't much of an issue for me.

Did a search for "tank seams" too... no results except to learn that they are soldered...

Thanks folks!

I wouldnt mess with it personally.  Torque and me toyed with the idea then realized that sacrefising the integrity of the gas tank wasnt worth it.

I will tell u a kewl idea I did.  DOOR MOLDING!  yes door molding.  I got some chrome door molding and it hides it and looks great.

Maybe u can get some and paint it black or some other color.

Just an idea

The crome door edge guard also comes in black ( by the roll )

If you are going to weld your petrol tank you could do worse than put the tank on a car exhaust for a couple of minutes, shouldn't explode after that.
