oh and when i tested it out i did not crank the bike up. i wonder if i cranked the bike it would get more power and be louder.

I have heard Fiamm horns are weak and disappointing.  Are you using a relay? If I decide to upgrade I am going with a Stebel.

I run a FIAMM on mine and it is LOUD.  You have to run a relay or it will sound gay.

Well then, that will be just about right when riding down Brokeback Mountain. ;D

I used a relay for a 60's model Chevy on mine.  Mounted it up on the neck just above the horn.  Spray painted in black and it blends right in.  The relay gives it the power it needs and also stops the headlights from dimming like they do without a relay on the horn.

I've already given the FIAMM a workout since installing it.  I've had two idiots pull right out in front of me, and you oughta see the look on their faces when something on two wheels sounds like a Buick.  Of course, the middle digit of the left hand usually follows the laying on of the horn... :D

How does one go about installing and wiring up a relay for a louder horn? Do you have specs. for the relay and how it gets wired in? I'm interested in a much louder horn.

Thanks

Every relay is different and has different connection methods.  The particular relay I used has three terminals and I just experimented around until I had it right as there was no diagram with it.

The basic idea is to run a new heavier wire(inline fused if it was me)  to the hot side of the battery to the relay and from there to the horn - hook up the current horn wire to the relay - so when you hit the horn button it's really just the relay trigger.

The how depends on the type of relay you have.  Pick one that can carry the amps the horn needs + a bit

here's a pretty good link on it

Thanks for the info Reelthing.

Should have read a couple of other posts first.  :-/

After reading on in this thread, bentwheel had a "link" for the horn he used and recommends.
I found on that web site how to wire up the horn they sell. Looks like it comes bundled with a relay with the proper specs. etc. so it's just a matter of fabricating the mount and following their instructions.

I need to upgrade all three bikes, they all sound like the roadrunner with a bag over his head - that 139db one, man that has got to be a loud devil

I used the current horn wiring for a pair of horns I found at autozone.  They sound pretty darn good, much louder than the stock unit, but from what has been said here I could get better performance from them with a new relay that is appropriate for the horns capability.
