Title: Macs Pipe Installed, Tuning ?'s Post by Circle_Burner on 04/14/06 at 18:26:38 I installed a new Macs pipe, it looks and sounds excellent. I turned out the low speed needle to 2 turns, rejetted the carb with a 152.5, and shaved the white spacer in half. I have the stock airbox with no mods. The question is I'm still getting backfires, so what I should I do? Rejett to a 155? Thanks for the help. |

Most of the time the throttle isn't wide open and the fuel is not lean, however if the pilot jet is not large enough it will be in a lean state. For any pipe upgrade you must increase the pilot jet to cure the lean condition.the pilot jet and main jet must work together so increase pilot increase main. With the savage in stock form and a pipe upgrade the air box should be opened and the pilot jet increades to .75 this is with any pipe. the main is a trial be seat of pants and reading the plug.155 is where i found mine to run preform the best with a jardine pipe. |

Title: Re: Macs Pipe Installed, Tuning ?'s Post by Savage_Rob on 04/15/06 at 06:58:47 Okay, first, use basic tuning procedures and don't just use "2 turns". Below is a quote from Lancer that I think covers it pretty well. You may also try reading applicable sections at DAN'S ONLINE MOTORCYCLE REPAIR COURSE (http://www.dansmc.com/MC_repaircourse.htm) like Carburator Theory and Tuning. Second, don't drill jets. If you decide to try a larger pilot jet, spring for the $3 to $5 and get one that's the correct size. Quote:
