Title: Carb spacer and backfireing Post by Tomv on 04/16/06 at 15:04:45 I have an 05 S40.....the aricle taken from the tech post is from a 1997 rider mag. Would this still hold true for my 05? Also I do not know what size the main jet is and would this need to be changed? I know some of you are excellant 'wrenchers' and I would value and appreciate any ideas along this carb and backfireing fix. I hope to still use the stock muffler. Thanks Tom V |

Absolutely. Your bike will run a whole lot better and with much less popping and backfiring if you do a few simple carb mods. Your main jet should be a 145. If you remove the cover from the slow mixture screw and set it to 2-2 1/2 turns out, put in a 2/3s or 1/2 white spacer, and maybe go 1 size larger on the main jet (145 -> 147.5) your bike will do alot better. If you put an aftermarket exhaust on, you'll want to go even bigger on the main jet. The whole subject of carb mods has been discussed extensively on this site. They do work very well. The Rubber Side Down forum is where most techinical questions are posted. The Cafe is for off topic and general BSing ;D |
