Title: Just got an 06 S40 alot of ?'s
Post by 06s40 on 05/15/06 at 13:53:13

So i bought a new s40. Besides the fact i got raped by my dealer for the price, i let my buddy ride it and he dumped it with 20 miles on it. Made him fix the footpeg and turnsignal, and im planning on painting the bike myself here pretty soon so ill take care of the scratches. Thinkin Kameleon, or maybe another Kandy or Pearl kolor.

Anyone know where to get:

*Chrome grips

*Billet mirrors

*Chrome footpegs

*Gel seat

*Good exahust, and do i need to modify the carb??
Any other ideas let me know, i want this bike to be fully kustom!! PLease help!!

I am assuming you mean Kuryakyn ISO grips (or similar), my dealer had the best price on them once I figured shipping in.

Mirrors, probably check places like Dennis Kirk, Cruiser Customizing, etc.

Footpegs, I have no idea as I am running the stock ones.

Gel seat, there was a guy had one for sale on here not long ago, don't know if he still has it.  Otherwise, Oneida Suzuki looks like it has the lowest price.  Lots of mixed reviews on the gel seat it seems.

Exhaust, MAC Performance, Jardine, Supertrapp, HD stockers.  Dennis Kirk is where I bought my MAC, I think they sell Jardine and Supertrapp as well.  Although, there are probably better deals to be had out there if you do some Googling.

As far as carb mods, the best offer I can extend to you is to use the search function on this forum and use the following terms...

carb mod
carburetor
white spacer
jetting
main jet
pilot jet
idle mix
idle
rejet

and there are probably other terms that I haven't thought of since I currently have a splitting headache!  ;D  Be sure to set the number of days to search to something like 2000 so you get all the results.  Do this as well with the number of results the search engine gives back to you.

Good luck and congrats with your S40.  They are good bikes, don't let anyone tell you any different.  Tons of things you can do to them to make them unique and totally your personality.

Ride safe!

Ebay seems to have several savage/S40 accesories on sale at any point in time - if you wish to check them out.

Man, I can't imagine how you felt when your friend dumped your brand new bike - yikes I'd be really pissed.

A collegue of mine keeps hinting that he'd like to try out my bike because he's never ridden anything but is so jealous of my bike.  He is hoping to get a bike in the future.  Yet, I am very possessive of my bike even though its a 2000.  It only has 9000 kms on it - so it's pretty new in terms of engine wear.  Besides, I've never dumped it etc. and I don't want to risk someone else wrecking my first ever motorcycle.

ya walk out and find someone has stolen......the chain, it has better street value.

but then again when  talk of crazy bobbers come up, your ride is always mentioned.  also it looks right at home at the ratt bike site.

Hey Vroom1776, when they said the BIg Single is a real stump puller, I don't think they meant it literally. ;D And about that chain drive conversion....well, I'm not sure that's the one for me.  Otherwise, looking good..

Chrome grips? Any of the HD catalogs.

Chrome pegs? Happy hunting...

Better exhaust? ANYTHING is an improvement...

Billet mirrors? Any non-Yamaha 10mm stem from J&P Cycles metric catalog will fit fine.

Gel seat? Usually not worth the expense.

Carb? PM Lancer from this board.

Crazy mods huh? I think mine is still the top of the heap in the "strange Savages" department...

I need to take some more pics, as it is getting closer to being a bike again.

Try taking a look at the Marketplace forum and read the Best Sources for Savage Parts thread as well as the Accessory List thread in the Tech Ref forum.

So its been raining here for like 2 weeks so i havent been able to ride my bike. sux!!! but i sneaked in a little ride today. its the first one since the first service. That stupid backfire is really pissing me off. especially when i pull up next to a couple fine girls and the thing explodes. haha. I cant decide on a color. any crazy ideas? Tangerene Kandy? Aquamarina? (changes from a deep blue to a deep turquoise $$400 a quart just for mid coat!!!!) or just a crazy metal flake? so many colors out there its so hard to decide.

Vroom, I just couldnt see how that bike could ride good with that seat but now I know. I tried sitting on my frame so as I could reach both sides of the long engine bolts at the same time and found that I like the feel of setting in the "well". Other than the frame rails.

Thumperclone:

Yep, that's a cherry bomb/ glass pac.  At idle it's not too loud.  You can talk in a more or less normal voice if you are standing near it.  If you get on the throttle, though, it is loud as hell.  If I am cruising at constant speed, say 35 mph, it is quite reasonable, volumewise (one of my non-motorcycle pals who was evidently riding behind me in traffic w/ her window down told me so ).  God forbid it backfires... haven't found a real good way to seal it to the header.  Been using red permatex.  Get small leaks...  I got my cherry bomb  from Jegs . com  I also attached a thumbscrew inside the CB to get a little more backpressure... plus the old school guys used to do it so cops couldn't stick their billy clubs down their straight pipes to see if there was a baffle.  One good thing about the volume on heavy accel is that it keeps my speed down in town...

I love the long azz pipe WD has on his, with the fish tail.  If I go w/ apes, I will prolly try and find a longer GP and weld on some fins.

Sluggo:

Your bike has way more class than mine.  I'm sure we both get looks when we are bopping around.  Just different looks.  Despite the fact that my bike looks completely uncivilized, I am civilized (more or less).  I don't really go in for the "biker" image/look/ lifestyle... nor do many of us on this site...

Steelwolf:

I couldn't do 40 miles on the stock seat w/o having to get off or sit on the hump.  I love the metal seat.  I sit on my butt and haunches, not my tailbone like the stocker.  No shocks is a little rough, but not too bad.  Just gotta watch out for the really nasty potholes.  At the right speed, you just kinda bop over the general bumps and it's not bad at all.  It was also important to bend down the edges where my thighs kinda hang over.  I think sluggo suggested that...
